I went to a tire shop/ junk yard to look at used tires. Picked one up and was going to match with a new one as the tread was deep. Picked up half a five gallon bucket of ww no charge too. Went to buy a new one and have them both mounted. The used one was to old and they could not responsibly mount it. So I took the old tire back and traded it for a 2.5 gallon bucket of ww. [smilie=w:

Went through most of the bucket with cutters, only 22 zinc rejects so far.

Excellent! Was that not a full 5gal bucket? Your smelt should have yielded more than 61#?

It was a 2.5 gallon bucket filled most of the way. I'm working on a deal with the guy to let me buy them on a semi regular basis. Think the free bees are over.

Could someone post a pic so I know what to look as far as zinc alloy?

An above member posted using wirecuuters and finding 22 Zinc rejects so far.

What exactly does one look for?

thanks

Zinc is much, much harder than lead alloy. Thus the wire cutter test. It also is less dense and feels light for the size.

Zinc wheel weights usually have rivets.

I no longer sort, I just keep the melt temp below 700F.

Gotta keep scarfing those WW's, keep a good relationship going with your local tire store!!!

Yup, days of freebie 5-gal buckets are gone..................even up here the shops have caught on now but at least they're still cheap....

Thoes truck WW are nice and big. My company uses stick on ww after they replace the original clip on when they change the tires. I keep a nice selection of both.
