I keep hearing that whole "drop it and see if it rings" saying. I just melted bout 40#s of wws that i sorted 1st and am pretty def sure that i got all the odd balls out. I smelted at around 550-650 so if i did add **** weights they wouldnt hurt anything. I poured the ingots and let them cool (while i was run out by one of the biggest bees i ever seen in my life). When i poped them out the mold and drped them on the ground they still rang. Im guessin they ring due to the tin and such and doesnt mean that i have zinc in the mix? Thx for the help in advance.

No, it doesn't mean zinc, it just means they're not pure lead (which "thud"s)

I don't claim to know a whole lot about smelting but I know that if your temperature was correct, no zink would have melted. That "ring" is music to your ears! Sounds like you done good.

Thudding soft lead is getting hard to come by these days. It takes almost nothing added to lead to make it ring.
