I just acquired a Senior Turret that came w/o the tie rod.

Could someone who owns one please give me the dimensions and thread count so I can get it duplicated? And does the rod appear to be made of iron, soft steel, or hardened steel? Thanx in advance.

How about a photo of the press and where the missing part goes. I have a huge Hollywood
turret press, but not sure of the model and have no idea what part you mean.

I don't have a Hollywood but that bottom boss will certainly accept a rod with a standard thread either corase or fine. Measure the hole accross and buy a couple of bolts that size from the hardware store, one coarse and one fine. One will screw in just fine and you will have it.

That rod most certainly isn't iron. Any kind of steel will work once you know the diameter and pitch, just buy a piece of All-Thread in the proper size with a washer and a nut. Cut it to length, screw it in the bottom and place the washer and nut on top and you are good to go.

You don't need that rod for reloading. It was furnished to be put in place to make the press stronger and ridged for bullet swaging.

If you want something that looks like the original it would be snap for somebody to turn one on a lathe. They would use some sort or tool steel just because it is easier to work with than cold rolled.

MtGun44:

I have 3 different models of Hollywoods (among others) and am always interested in seeing other members old presses. Would you mind posting a pic of yours?

Kevin, did you ever figure out what the screw in the right hand link arm does? The press in your pictures has it like yours.
Anybody?

Ken if this is a quiz, my guess would be an adjustable stop of some sort used for swaging. Probably used to control nose shape or hollow point depth. Just a guess on my part but you did ask...Ray

Negative. The screw has nothing to do w/ holding the arm together and both arms have a hole for one. I am guessing that there is a relationship between which side the handle is mounted on and where the screw is located. The screw has a small hole thru its shaft as if it is there to run a pin thru it, and it is made of a stainless material. If I had to guess, I'd say that a wire ran from it to something that moved when the handle was cranked. Or there might be an accessory that could be mounted on it.

I get the feeling that my press is a newer one probably made by the person took over Hollywood manufacture from Lyle Corcoran due to the fact that it has no markings on it and the bluing still looks fresh. It cleaned up quite well and I will post a photo when I am done. I still need to get the rust off the handle and re-blue it.

My Universal B arrives tomorrow. :-P

Kevin,

here is my Hollywood. All cast iron and a huge piece of equipment!

Anyone know exactly which model this is? It says Universal on the side, so maybe
that is the model. 7/8-14 die holes, no shell holder turret the primer had two heads, lg and
small diameters. I think I need to get one of the shellholder adapters mentioned above.
I have .30-06 and .38 Spl shell holders, and the '06 will fit a whole bunch of calibers, but
the adapter is a better idea.

I have considered putting this on sale, anybody know what would be a fair price? May keep it,
esp if I get the shellholder adapter.

Mtgun44, your press is a Universal 2 model.

Hollywood would have called your press a Model II. Model I had the three station semi turret and Model III had the extra small turrets for primers and shellholders.
At first they called it a Model B but changed to the roman numeral system about the time the frame changes took place. At some point around this time the aluminum frame models were also produced. Right now I have no information if there was a seperate model designation for steel and aluminum models, or even if both were produced at the same time. Hollywood ads from the period do not say. Neither do period gun books other than Phil Sharpe.

According to Sharpe (page-123 of his Complete Guide to Handloading Supplement), that model was originally called a Universal Deluxe. As Pressman and Quasi says, it was changed to a Model 2 later as Hollywood released more designs.

I have considered putting this on sale, anybody know what would be a fair price? May keep it, esp if I get the shellholder adapter.

C-H/4D makes a universal H-ram ($10.37, part #407190) that will allow you to use any shellholder. It replaces what you have pictured there and regular shellholders snap into it.

Call CH between 1-3pm EST and talk to Beth. She will take your order. Five of my presses have them.

It looks like this:

And looks like this when installed and has a shellholder attached to it:
