Very nice cases, tell us more about them. They look like u used steel high wall bases and glued or soldered them to brass tubes?
very interested to hear.

I have been looking for some brass shells for a wile now. how does these chamber and extract? any sticking? do u have to expand these cases at all? and u cut them shy short of 3" from the head to the mouth of the case?
also how did u get the base of the shell off of the rest of the components, the brass is damn hard to separate.

why bother? Magtech solid brass shells are readily available. No muss no fuss. They are way cheaper than cutting up a 50bmg case for something that is not nearly as good.

Most dram equivalents are marked on the box tops. Just multiply the dram equivalents by I think 27.something grains and you have your charges. I dont have a good shotshell manual, otherwise I would think that one would have BP loads listed.

Cool project, have you looked in to using trail boss? it is made specifically to be bulky and used as a BP substitute, go to there site for info but basically you fill the case 70% full.

Take a look at the cases this guy made:
http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=143691

He's using smokeless and full diameter slugs in a rifled barrel.

You didn't post WHAT shotgun you're using, but I'm assuming a smooth bore. Choked or open choke? There are ongoing threads about using roundballs in shotguns, and they may be helpful to you as well as less labor intensive.

There is no reason to not use BP if you want to.
