Marlin 1892 Question

Does anyone in lever lever land know what cartridges the 1892 was chambered in. I bought one on gunbroker and the seller said it is a 32/20 I thought it only came in 32 rim and colt.

I didn't know marlin made a model 1892. Heard of 1893, 1894, and 1895 but am not aware of an 1892. Don't mean they didn't I just never heard of one.

When the Model 1892 and later the Model 92 in 32 caliber left the factory they were chambered for 32 rimfire if you used the rimfire firing pin and 32 Long/Short Colt if you used the centerfire firing pin . All the rifles left the factory with a pair of firing pins so you could shoot either !

I had a model 1892 and a model 92 that were 32 caliber . Shot them both quite a bit with home cast heel bullets and in 32 Long Colt brass I was lucky to run up on NIB at a little gunshop north of Scranton PA !

Little guns were pretty easy to load for !

With the 32 Long Colt brass all you needed to do was trim it a bit so it would feed the Lyman/Ideal 90 grain heel bullet , charge the brass with 2.5 grains of Unique after priming of course seat the bullet and then put Lee Liquid Alox in the outside lube grooves .

I killed a couple squirrels with that load inside 25 yards . But be aware it doesn't go but about 850 FPS .

The first "rimfire" sized action Marlin made was the Model 1891 , which was followed by the Model 1892/92 , that was followed by the Model 1897/97 and finally the 39/39A .

They were all very similar with slight varaitions from model to model .

six pt thats what i thought I have a 92 load short colt for it cant find long colt brass. I found this 1892 on gun broker seller said it was a 32/20 I won the bid while waiting to hear from the seller I reserched and could not find an1892 in 32/20

FWIW , Winchester ammo makes a seasonal run of 32 Short Colt ammo each year with an 80 grain lead bullet . I shot some of that and it wasn't the best in the rifles I had !

If you can get your hands on 50 pieces of Long Colt ammo or brass and a set of CH-4D dies you will be set . Well you'll also need a 90 grain heel mold . But thats about all it takes !

The 1892 was an improved 1891 and were produced tillabout 1915. Same calibers as the 1891 .22¡ .32 rimfire and a .32 centerfire.

The 1892 was a shorter action, so wouldn't work with a longer cartridge like the 32-20. The 1889, 1894, 94 actions handled 32-20 length cartridges.

.22 cals. will bring a premium in this model.

Curious how this gun ended up working out for you. Such a limited amount of info on the web about these. I picked up 2 of them yesterday, one made in 1892 and the other in 1893. One has a center fire pin and there other has a rimfire pin, but neither has a stock.
