Is 00 shot cast or done like the other smaller shot sizes?

I believe I read somewhere years ago that it is swaged and rolled between plates to round it off.
Don't bet the farm on it, though.

I believe that Bill has it right for what the factory does. If you're asking how *we* do it, it's cast. Check out SkiesUnlimited, he makes buckshot molds in several sizes, most casting 20 at a time.....

Yeah, I've hear they were swaged too. I have a 00 mould of the type of which you speak and you can make a bunch of 00s once you get it up to temperature and rolling./beagle

I just ordered a 0000 size. I figure cast from HTWW they should give good penetration.

I've been messing with one of skies "00" molds for about a year now, made prolly 60lbs of shot so far with it. The "00" stacks very neatly in a 12ga hull and with just soft lead it has performed fairly well so far. Havn't gotten a hold of a car door/glass or much left over construction material but I'm sure whether it be "0000" or "00" buck I wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end.

try rotary tumbling the balls for a few hours after you get them trimmed off the trees. They uniform up really nicely. You will have to run the skies mold HOT to get good fill and even then you gotta inspect the balls near the sprue for inclusions. I get about 20% loss on my castings on high average.

Hornady advertises their 0 and 00 buck as pure and swaged perfectly round. The bags I got were hardened a little and 2 thousandths out of round. The 0 were .321/.323, and advertised as .320.

Get the Kroil and they will cast perfect Big lots had pet toe nail trimmers for .99 while back they work great to cut {tree} and put in tumbler for an Hour look factory.
If you can find old Mop handle[the 1 1/8in] and cut it 8in long rip in half it is much better handles and dont get hot.
I am tring to work a deal for rick but the guy hasnt got back to me

Lee is making a 00 mold 18 balls at a time. $60 plus you need handles. I have a #1 Skies mold. The handles get hot. I wear welding gloves. It is a tedious job.I get 12 in a 2 3/4 12ga. Patterns well at 25 yards
