If you had to recommend a cast bullet for the above rifle, what would it be??

WOW!!! are you going to get a lot of different answers.
Well without knowing any specific what for I am going with the RCBS 35/200.
I cant start with any or's because they will be unending.

358429 would be a nice start. What is the intended purpose? Hunting or target,
and if hunting, what animal?

105gr to 200+ gr for normal pistol boolits and on up for some of the rifle boolits. . . . .
Lots of range there. What twist? This will limit your max boolit length.

First thing is to slug it and see what diameter you will need.

BTW, I am a RB fan and would enjoy and occasional report and some pix on this one.

What do you want to do with this Rolling Block rifle after you get it loaded.

Suggestions may change with you planned use.

Twist is18". I will be target shootin/fun. No hunting. I will post pics. I bought the rifle with no sights. My next dilemma is which sight. I could put a blade or Lyman 17A on the front and a soule on the rear. I imagine that 100 yds for a 357 magnum is about the limit for target work. I have no experience with this caliber. Since I guess 100 yd is the max (correct me if I am wrong), I was also considering the Marble's bullseye sight on the barrel instead of the soule. Barrel is 30". stamped on it is cat. 3523. On top of the barrel is stamped Taylor and Pedersoli is stamped on the side. The previous owner had a Unertl on it and the blocks are still on the barrel.

Feedback please.

I would use a plain base boolit, from 170gr on up. The 200gr swc GB going on now might be a good one, along with the 358429

I will second the RCBS 35-200.

Recently had one cross my path and swapped it here for a 4 cav 429421 that casts .431

I did have the good sense to cast about 200 with it before it left my hands and, after looking hard at my 357 contender barrel I wish I had done more!

Another will one day cross my path and I will keep it.

I think of the 200 gr as a bullet for 35 rem, not the 357. the case seems small for the weight.

Case too small for 200gn? No way! The RCBS 200 is one of the best from my Ruger Bisley 357 mag.
With that rifle and the right sights you could be poking holes through 2lb coffee cans at 500 yards. With the 1/18" twist I would even try longer heavier boolits like 250 and 280gn at long range.
Some folks say the 45/70 is a 100 yard cartridge too but that dont stop others from shooting some remarkable groups at 1000 yards.
I think maybe you should broaden your thinking on just what that gem will do.

hiram, you are going to love that rifle. I have two Browning 1885's in 357 mag with 18-3/4" twist and I shoot the RCBS 35-200 FN bullet out of mine to 300 yards with no problem. I have also purchased the Lyman 358315-204 grain and I found a Lyman four cavity 358430 195 grain and a six cavity group buy of the same mould. The last time I played with it I was using AA#9 with the RCBS bullet.

I've had good results with the RCBS 200 gr. and Lil Gun powder in my Handi rifle in 357. Got some 2400 to try with them also, but haven't got around to it yet. H110 and mag primers would probably work well, too. I don't know what the throats look like in the Pedersoli, but I seat the RCBS boolit and crimp in the crimp groove and have room to spare. The nice thing about this boolit is that it carries a lot of its weight in the nose, so it only takes up the same amount of space in the case as a 158 gr. pistol boolit when loaded to the crimp groove.
Another good boolit for higher velocity loads is the 155 gr. gas checked 358156. I have shot this boolit in .357 mag, .357 Herret, and .35 Rem. It is always as accurate (if not more) as any other boolit I have shot in any of these.
For slower target/plinking load, I would guess any of the plain based RN, RNFP or SWC boolits would do well for cheap fun shooting.

I suggest 16+ gr of H110/W296 under a 358429. Very accurate in several revolvers, hot load
but works great. Would probably generate around 1700 or more from that long barrel.

Pretty thing!
