Has anyone tried the Ranch Dog TLC 225-50-50 boolit in a 223 or 22-250. I've been working with a Lyman 225646 55gr. gc and have not had any luck with it yet.

Just wondering if the Ranch Dog 225646 will shoot in either cartridge? I would appreciate any help or advise!

I am using it in the 223 , A 223 TC Contender Carbine and other 223's

I am getting just shy of 2000fps with 14 gr of SR 4759 , lubed with Carnuaba Blend ( White Lable Lubes , Lar a member here )

3/4 to 1" at 50 yds in the Carbine

How about the other 223's? I've been shooting the Lyman with pathetic results and am trying to keep from doing the same with the RD mold.

In the Mini Mk X I get sub 3" at 100 yds with the same load

The Remington dosn't like any of the loads I have tryed so far

Bigest thing I have found is to get the GC crimped on tight and square

BTW I am only running the boolit in to a .225 sizer die far enough to crimp on the GC
I am then dipping the boolit in melted lube , wipeing of excess lube off the GC
And shooting un sized

I like the design of the boolit and would like to think that I could work up a load with either rifle. I'm thinking that finding an accurate load for a centerfire 22 could very well be a challenge. The best I been able to come up with on the Lyman boolit is 2 1/2 inches at 30 yards so far. When or if I come up with a more accurate boolit, I'll take it to a range where I can shoot at 100 yards.

Thanks for the information you've provided!

Fly-guy, 2½" at 30 yards? Hokey-smoke!!! What are you shooting them through, what twist, any other load details? What loading dies (runout can kill groups fast)? You should be able to get that at 100 yards. Try something around Larry Gibson's AR load (17.5 gr 4895, SP primer, Dacron) with the OAL set to touch the rifling. Slug the throat, mine likes the boolits sized at .2245 better than .225 (tight throat, little wear).

I'm using that boolit in a .223 Tikka and a 22-250 Ruger #1. Funny thing is, the Tikka won't shoot slow. Nothing works until I crank it up. At 2700 fps, propelled by IMR3031 or VV N133 it's nearly a MOA shooter. Below that it's all over the paper. The Ruger is the opposite. It's a tack driver at 2100 fps, 1.5 MOA or so, but above that it's a shotgun. You'd think the 1:12 twist .223 would be harder on boolits than the 1:14 22-250, but as I've learned, nothing about guns is an absolute. Gotta test 'em!

Like Beagle states in his article, you must be vicious when sorting tiny boolits and reject even the slightest blemishes. The more I follow his advice, the better my .22s shoot cast.

That is one excellent article! I plan to do some more surfing in "castpics" as time permits. I have enjoyed many post on this web site as this ole dog has learned a lot of new tricks on many different calibers and subjects. .

I appreciate all of the responses and am planning on ordering the 22 mold. Nobade, thanks for the information on the 223 and the 250 - you're pushing my buttons and getting me excited about shooting 22 cast boolits again!
