Thought I might post a report on Mihas boolit fire in a sabot in front for a couple pyrodex pellets for a ML hunt Halloween weekend. Randy (ghh3rd) and I went to the woods on Friday and right about 15 minutes or so before dark I hear what sounds like a heard of buffalo running through a Palmetto patch. I can only get small glimpses of them so I put the cross hairs up to where I expect them to emerge and decide it is to dark to be picky so the first to show himself is going to have volunteer for sausage duty. Well what I thought was a small sow comes out at about 18-20 yds with the crosshairs following his shoulder I take the shot. He is broadside but slightly quartering toward me so the boolit enters high and forward of the front shoulder and exits low in the armpit. The boolit grazes the spine, severs the windpipe and scrambles the front of the heart. I have not chronographed my ML (affraid of destroying it with the sabot) but i would guess just over 1000 fps. He did not go another foot. Here are some pics.

Thanks for posting that, and congratulations! My ML shoots better with the .45's and black Hornady sabots, but I love that boolit, and hope to take something with it in .444. What was the alloy, may I ask?

The alloy was ACWW. I also shoot that boolit in my 444. With the 444 I use 50/50 pure lead/ACWW checked and lubed with Speed Green. I like the softer boolit and I have shot it at close to 2000 fps with no leading.

Folks,

Ranch Dog makes a very nice suitable substitute for the 44 Mag / 444 series.

IT casts out nicely at ~265 grains.

Just food for thought................... HV:bigsmyl2:

Nice Shooting! That's going to be some good sausage. In my book thats a perfect sized pig for good eating. Its amazing how a good old cast boolit works at putting pigs in the freezer.
