Can anyone suggest a decent load for the .25-06 in the H&R handi Ultra? Looking for best accuracy for deer hunting and practice for same.

Would anyone lnow the rate-of -twist in this rifle?

I have had recent success within the last month using a RCBS 25-120-SP sized .258 with Horn GC, WW 10:1 with lino and water quenched out of the mold. Lube LBT blue. AA5744, Win WLR, resized LC42 30-06 cases, no fillers. COL 3.350" seating to engage the rifling, your rifle may be different. Loaded to magazine length the groups were 3.5" plus. Range 100yds, 5 shot grps, Chrono 10ft from muzzle. Temp 85F, Ruger 77 sporter.

18.0grs 1.2" 1645fps ave, high 1663, low 1619. sd 16
19.0grs 1.1" 1718fps ave, high 1737, low 1709, sd 11
20.0grs 1.4" 1769fps ave, high 1779, low 1753, sd 11
21.0grs 1.2" 1853fps ave, high 1871, low 1842, sd 13
22.0grs 1.6" 1947fps ave, high 1964, low 1934, sd 12
23.ogrs and over, groups open up to 4" plus.

I loaded up some foulers with a RCBS 25-100-FN cast out of lino that I cast up years ago, lube I think I was using RCBS rifle lube back then (1989). Anyway, using 17.0gr of 5744 yeilded 1652fps ave, 1649 high, 1625 low, sd 11. 4 shots at 100 dropped into a very nice little .700" group. I have not gone and tried to repeat. All other compents are the same, COL was 3.145" again seated out to engage the rifling.

They are printing 2-4" below point of aim from my existing zero for 120 jacketed slugs. I do not know what you are looking for in terms of velocity, but if you need more, you may need to go the heat treating route.

Hope this
