I have an AR-10 and two 30 cal molds, 311466 and 311413. Looking forward to the off season, I would like a plinker load grouping around 1 to 1-1/2 MOA. Any of you semi-auto guys have any words of wisdom or caution? I was thinking about 2230 for powder because it was made for semi-autos, but my mind is not set on it. i also am not against the purchase of a new mold. If this goes well, I will also reload cast for a m1 garand. Any ideas or related experiences are appreciated.

There is a lot of info on the garand with 311466 and 5744. Run a search for Garand or BruceB and see what you get. i have no experience with the AR-10.

It sounds like an interesting challenge , my experience is with a AR fifteen and ball ammo but one of the things I learned was to put a couple drops of CLP into the gas port on the bolt and stand it on end while cleaning . I've never had failures attributable to cleanliness this way and I'm thinking bullet lube might be something else in this case .

When I use the 311466 in bolt rifles I only use enough to get good accuracy , to much and groups start to open up . If I was gonna try this bullet in an AR ten I might use LBT blue lube instead of my old standby of fifty/fifty Alox .

I'm looking forward to hearing how this works for you .

I have run my garand with lead for about 6 months now. I use a Lee 200 gr bullet, sized .310. I have used H4831, Varget and Reloader 15. Of them, I have had the best success with Varget (32 grains + dacron filler .75 gr) or H4831 (42 grains + dacron filler .75 or 1/4 sheet toilet paper). Reloader 15 I tried 32 and 34 grains and had short strokes on occasion. I have test loads of 36 grains, but haven't tried them yet.

I would guess Varget or BL-C(2) would treat you well in an AR-10 with those bullets. I would probably start at about 28 grains and work up from there until I got reliable function. I have no experience with 2230, but based on it's burn rate, it would probably be OK to start similar and work up. I would suggest filler to keep the powder against the bottom of the case.

Problem is getting accuracy and function. Often, you'll get 1 but won't be able to get the other with the same load.

Good luck...........
