311284 and Lyman Cast Bullet Manual

Why would the Lyman CBM tell you to load the 311284 in 30-06 so short that there is obviously a lot of bullet sticking down into the powder chamber of the case? I know this is bad but I made 5 just to try, I made the next batch a lot longer to where I'm sure the bottom of the bullet is even with the bottom of the neck.

My guess is they are working to total OAL or allowing for feeding through a 'universal' length of magazine.

Bullet below case neck is not necessarily bad by the way. Let you rifle tell you what IT likes.

................I don't seat any boolit to some arbitraryOAL listed. I seat to engrave first, or feed through the magazine, or seat to a crimp groove. Sometimes all 3 can be accomplished!
