I just order 6 jugs of powder from Jeff, two of which are 105. His site says:

A flake type powder, which can be loaded using AA#5 data published during the late 1980's. This is one of the first lots of #5 Equivalent as manufactured by Hercules in the late 1980s. Seems to be faster than today's #5 ball-type powder. Slightly faster than Unique, and slightly slower than Green Dot. An excellent powder for 12GA target loads.

So has anyone one used it? I want it for WW231, AA5, and Unique type loads.

Thanks,
Creeker

Creeker, it looks like a 231 speed. Use that until proven otherwise. Compare the two in a 357 rifle for trajectory, if no chrono. Use 5 grains with a 150 grainer in a mag case for the first go around. ... felix

Lloyd we'll find out. The add doesn't mention anything about that. His site does however mention the following about 107:

A disc (thick flake) type powder, which can be loaded using AA#7 data. Due to it's coarseness, it is not recommended for progressive loaders. This powder is new.

We've discussed this one before, here's the thread: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=6627&highlight=KYCaster

I was really disappointed in it. Wasn't anything like what I was looking for. I'd recommend starting with AA#2 data and working up CAREFULLY!

Good luck

I burn quite a bit of 107 and it meters like rocks. I took to weighing everything, throwing charges with Lee dippers. I ran enough through a measure to more that reassure myself that Jeff is right., It does however, at least in pistol cases, burn very like Blue Dot.

Jeff said he was out of 105 but was expecting a shipment today or Monday. I have no idea what it will be like. Perhaps I'll get lucky and it be like Leftoverdj.

Quote: Bartlett has sold at least two different powders as #105. I got some of the first batch and it is a very fine ball powder that looks very much like the AA 9 shown above:Quote.

We shall see.

After speaking with Jeff I deleted the #105 from the order. You guys are right, it probably won't meter well enough. Got 6 jugs coming, half WC844 & half WC820 pulldown. Life is good......Lynn

Well Lloyd it doesn't look like there will be any more coming. Wish I'd bought a bunch but at the time I had Bullseye running out of ever cabinet I opened.

Isn't WC820 the same as AA-9 ? I've got about 15# of that. BTW Lynn, if you haven't used WC844 yet, its really good.

Yes, AA9 and WC820 are the same, except for various lots of either. AA9 has had several lots, namely AA9S, AA9C, and probably more. The takedown folks don't attatch lot speeds except via comments. So, expect an AA9 for top speed, and H110 for slow speed variants. I have used at least 4 different lots, and have found them all faster than H110/WW296 by 10-15 percent minimum. ... felix

My testing and chronograph results agree with what Felix said.

I usally get in the teens for SD when putting a 20 round string across the screen in 9x19 and 38 SPC.

I use it in two different Dillon PM and a RCBs. No problems.

I will be ordering more along with the AA9 sub as soon as more is in stock. I have read where the AA9 sub leaks from the lee PM.

I s the powder Jeff B warns about in measure on progressive presses.

TCLouis you are correct in that the warning on his site is for 107. The bad press on metering came from these guys so I sent Jeff an email about my concerns. Jeff being the nice guy he is answered. For the boards infomation, here's what Jeff told me & I [Quote]:

My current lot of #5 is some that was made for Accurate by Hercules, sometime in the mid 1980s. This does not look nor meter like the current AA#5 as sold today. The old #5 was by Hercules, is a flake, and does have some strings. I do not recommend this for progressive pistol loaders. However, it does work fine in shotgun loaders, and is a good trap/skeet powder. It burns faster than the current AA#5, but will load to #5 data as published in the '80s. Today's #5 is made by Lovex (Czech), and is a ball type. [End of Quote]

Again let me say the Jeff handled all my questions & concerns as a gentleman. He held my order till I was sure about the 105. I changed my order to 24 pounds of WC844 & 24 pounds of WC820PD. The order was sitting on my porch when I came home from work yesterday.

Cherokee, would you share your WC844 data. If not here then: creeker44 at verizon.net Thanks.......Lynn

I had questions whether by phone or Email.

Several others out there like that including the folks at "The Optic Zone".

Lots of folks out there that still have customer service though we typically forget the Midways, Midsouths etc since we did NOT have a run-in with them.
