I am getting a conversion cylinder for my Pietta .36 cal cap & ball to shoot 38 long colt cartridges. Anyone have a suggestion on a good mold to get for this? I think somewhere I read a hollow base works best.

Thanks!

I have no experience with the gun or cartridge you mention, maybe somebody here will chime in. But if it were me I would wait until I got the cylinder. Then I would see how the conversion cylinder was bored and take measurements of both the cylinder throats and the barrel interior. Then you will know what to do and whether a commercial mold or custom mold is required to fit right. You can also measure the cylinder length to settle on a bullet the right length. Somewhere there is a link to a database of chamber dimension drawings that might come in handy, maybe somebody can post that here.

Good luck, sounds like a versatile fun gun.

I shoot 38 S&W a lot, but it is not from "conversion" revolvers. I cast Lyman/Ideal 360271 and 358246, from 50/50 ww/pb they drop .361. I size .360 and lubed they weigh 146/147 and work very well in my hand ejectors and Colt PP revolvers.
