What would a S+W stainless 6" 41 mag in decent shape be worth? Front sight is missing the insert bead or whatever was there. Looks like it's seen a few miles, but no major scars.

In CA, at least $500. Probably more.

I obviously live in the wrong part of the country. If I found a M-629 around here for $400, I would on that like white on rice.

I had it for sale for a year and a half. $400 was the price I started at, $475 if you wanted the milt sparks holster with it and no takers till a couple days ago. Still have the holster if your interested deputy al?

That Milt Sparks is a nice rig all right, but I have a wealth of holsters already--thanks for the offer, though.

GLL- I don't have the gun. It's at a shop and the price ($450.) seemed a bit high to me. I'd like it, but I don't really have the funds, in fact I DON"T have the funds. But I can put stuff on the back rack and let it sit there for months, so I was wondering about it. I don't like stainless and 6" is too long usually, but it hangs nice. Just thinking I guess you'd say.

I always wanted a 41 mag. I know where there is a Ruger BH 41 for a couple hundred bucks. Rode under a pickup seat for about 20 years and it shows! But I just can't fall in love with a Ruger BH. They're great guns, don't get me wrong. But they just don't have any "Cool/Wow/Neat" factor for me. Kind of like a car you use thats reliable, good on gas and paid for, but it just isn't anything "special". I wanted a blue model but this might work. This one I'll have to dwell on a bit.

I have .41 Blackhawks and am happy as can be with them. BUT, if you really want the S&W, then save the couple of hundred from the gun you really don't want and put it down on the S&W. Someone a lot smarter than me said something to the effect that life is too short to have a gun you don't want when you can get one you do want.

Good point, Doc. I "settled" for a BH x 6.5" a couple years ago when S&W made it clear that only limited production/niche-market 41 Magnums would be forthcoming from them. Used guns priced themselves out of consideration, too--that "coolness" factor added to the cult status of 41 Magnums really makes the meter run fast on these examples, at least around here.

I don't have the "mileage" on the 41 that I put on 357's or even 44's, but that Ruger SHOOTS, for sure. I have a buddy with an early version M-57 x 4", and we run cast boolits loads at 950-1000 FPS through them several times a year.

Dream gun......a Model 58, or affordable limited run version of same. That Hunter's Package abomination currently available from S&W doesn't move me--at all.

Same here.

I see they have a Model 57 blued "Mountain Gun" w/ 4" barrel currently on the market. Might be worth looking at...................?

Actually I just checked their site myself and didn't see the .41 Mag. Mountain Gun listed. However, Auction Arms has a couple currently listed you could look at.

Auction Arms Item #'s are 7399069 & 7399070.

Hope this helps, :)

The S&W Mountain Gun in 41 Mag is a very nice rig to carry and hunt with. Mine has accounted for quite a few deer so far.

Do you guys like stainless or do you jsut ut up with it like I do? I just can't get the warm and fuzzies for stainless/chrome guns. They just seem "unfinished" and gaudy to me. Yes, I know I'm nutz.

Tpr.Bret,

In S&W revolvers I prefer blued, but can live with stainless. Never liked plated guns and don’t own any, but I’ve noticed many folks seem to prefer them. Beauty in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

About any decent N- frame S&W would sell for $400.00 to $500.00 in this area, (Utah) with very nice examples going somewhat higher. Prices on the older S&W’s, especially blued models are rising fast here.
