Not sure what category to post this in, but this one works. Do any of you have a classic nickname for one of your guns? I know Mt Gianni loves his "Sweetness". And I have a 30-30 lever gun that just screamed "My name is Vera, and don't you forget it" . How about it, any Lucretia Bourgia's out there? If there's a story along with it, thats even better. My gun with a name is not a weapon it is a schuetzen rifle made to shoot at targets. Its serial number is 1066 so naturally its name is Norm.

I've got an old Mossberg 1000 12ga. I've referred to as "Bertha" since I was 15.
Borrowed Jessie Ventura's line from Predator and call my Browning .25-06 "Old Painless".
Not really an affectionate nickname but from time to time I refer to my #1 7x57 as my ".275 Rigby" just to screw with my unknowing buddies.

I like big bore rifles and own a few of them, but haven't named any of them. Perhaps I should consider the following based on what people have said when looking down the barrels of some of them: OMG, for "OH MY GOD" or perhaps JC, for "Jesus Christ, what are you going to shoot with that?" or perhaps, OOF, the sound one frequently makes when shooting them off the bench.

I ordered my 1895 45/70 off of Gunbroker. It came from the same town in WA state the popular teen series Twilight supposedly took place. My daughter seen the address when it came in and said that is where Bella is from. She now affectionately calls it Bella. It does like to drain the blood out of things !!!

Onion (because I won it by shooting the most onions at 200 yards), Two Sh#ts (or 2 #2's or just 22 for short (its a 257 Roberts); after a bear it shot took two big dumps before keeling over), Stump Knocker (cus it fell out of the truck when the differential hit a stump, otherwise abused and neglected regularly, and still rises to the occasion when asked), Donkey D#ck (because of its massive belled bore), Brentwood (because it is quite the yuppy firearm) and Miss Ana (none of your business). No preference, but I prefer stump knocker for most work.

LOL! Ya' beat me to it MJ!

I call my biggest gun "Vera". I was a fan of Jayne Cobb in the "Firefly" series and the movie "Serenity". He always named his guns in order of killing power!

"Vera" is a 30-06 I built on a 1909 Argentine action, lugs lapped, Ruger bolt handle, Winchester Mod 70 side swing safety, and Timney trigger topped of with a fluted Montana Rifleman barrel and done by Brian. I think it's the Montana Rifle Company now and has gotten big, but back in the mid 90's Brian did STELLAR work and had about a two week turnaround time. He did many barrels for me and all were great performers. I know an '06 isn't that big a gun but she's mine and a nail driver too.

I still have ONE of those 1909 Argentine Mauser actions that is going to be my .300 Winmag someday.........

..........I've got "Huckleberry", "Josey Wales", and on and on....

I've also got a 1976 Honda CB360 affectionately named "Bitsa"............because I made it out of "bits of this and bits of that" according to my wife.

..........hey I know it's not a Harley but if you're a biker you've just gotta love the old Vertical Twins and I couldn't afford a Norton or BSA...........and it's the only vehicle besides my tractor that will run if EMP ever hits us................<GRIN>

I have only one rifle with a name. It's not very original but my 1868 Trapdoor 50-70 is Thumper. Just seemed to fit the old soldier.

I almost named the airplane I built Willit or Yabut because everyone always asked, "Yeah but Will it fly?" Finally named her Tootie Mae. The name just seemd to fit somehow.

I call my Colt HBAR "the food processor" but not out of any affection, and I don't even hunt with it. I just feel that those plastic/aluminum guns have all of the warmth and romance of a food processor. I don't deny that it is a wonderful shooting machine, but I much prefer walnut and steel.

Oh and the Browning Auto 5 20 ga named itself when I heard the noise it makes when I shoot it: "THWACKADA."

Two 12-gauges in the family, both Mossbergs, both factory 20" cylinder bores meant for ensuring copacetic public relations, one named The Serenader, one named The Guitarron. Both reside in soft Nylon cases meant for Fender Stratacasters with a little extra stuffing added.

I was wondering when someone would mention "Vera", that was a good show. Kinda sucks that Mal's pistol made it into a movie weapons museum, but Vera didn't.

My M16 is named after my favorite girl famous for carrying a sub-gun while robbing a bank--Patty Hearst. So the rifle is called TANYA, her infamous cult name from the Symbianese Liberation Army. I only call her TANYA when she is wearing her magic belly button ring and sings to me. Other times I call her "That stupid rifle that needs another barrel again". All of my rifles and all of my guitars have names. TANYA is not my favorite, but I like to slap her around once in a while when I think about how cute she was when she was young and how fast she has repeatedly banged me with the safety off.

I carried a Ruger GP100 6” as a duty weapon for many years. We call it the “Fecalator,” because of what it makes a suspect do just at the sight of it. Now that we are banned from carrying wheel guns, it has become my wife’s gun.

I now carry a Glock 21 (accurized by Second Creek Research) as my duty weapon. It won me a silver medal in the 2005 Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Top Gun competition. Ever after, my unit has referred to it as “The Punisher,” after the name of steel course we shot that year (and after the comic book turned movie.) They routinely offer to have the logo of the character from the movie engraved into the slide.

My primary backup and plainclothes gun is a Glock 30 affectionately called “The Mini Blaster.”

My plainclothes backup is a Ruger LCP that my wife named “The Noisy Cricket,” after a weapon in the movie “Men In Black.”

My dad's old 30-06 earned its nickname on a scout outing. It is a light Mauser action (not a milsup redo) from England (can't remember the manufacturer's name) and it came with a nice light beach stock, but oddly enough, no recoil pad at all. After the scouts each got a turn, the rifle has been known as BRUISE.

"the Twins" is the only name I've bestowed on any of my firearms. They're a pair of 1903 Springfields, that I built up from barreled actions and spare parts. Along the way, they became identical without even refinishing them to match. Both have original finish or most of it and both now reside in virtually matching colored original C-stocks, one of which I did refinish because it had been covered in layers of polyurethane at some point. Both even have matching early web slings.....

From Zane Grey's old book " The Last Trail " about the Ohio Valley Frontier. One of the characters ( Lew Wetzel ) was referred to by the bands of marauding Indians as " Deathwind " For his prowess in woodcraft, shooting and combat. Seemed appropriate for a well traveled .50 cal smoke-pole. And I had a Compound bow from back in the day before factory camo, that was named " Tracks " for the stenciled deer tracks it carried on it's limbs.

This has been a most enjoyable thread!

I only have three with nicknames:

Ruger Boddington Edition #1 in .375 Ruger - "Thumper"

Ruger 7 1/2" Bisley in .45 Colt - my wife calls it "Mrs. Beasley"

Thompson Center Renegade flintlock in .58 caliber - "Little Sister"

I had an H&R Handi Rifle in .22/250 that I couldn't get to group no matter what I did. I called it a lot of names, but I won't mention them here. That one got traded off quick!

I'm slow on the name giving, but I'm getting there.

I have a CZ .22 Lux something or other - father of a childhood friend called it a "buffalo gun" due to the long barrel.

I have a saiga AK I sometimes call "Matilda" - it seems to fit.

I have a Bushy competition AR recently dubbed "Roxie".

I have a Glock 22 I call the "loony gun". I came into its possession very soon after watching the video of the death of Deputy Kyle Dinkheller at the hands of a Vietnam vet who was totally off his rocker. (viewer discretion advised)

I want to come up with names for the others, but I am picky about things like that. I have a beat up old Mossberg 550 I might not care about. Maybe I'll just call it "the ugly stick".

And I have a Marlin 1895 in 45/70 that I am seriously thinking of calling "the fat lady" now. It wouldn't be original, but that was just funny.

I've only named 3 rifles.
My M40-A1 from Nam was named Maude, after the meanest ***** to ever set foot in my county.
My first Benchrest rifle is named "ol Red" and it's probably earned me a pickup truck full of trophies. I still use it when the going gets tough
My last Benchrest rifle is named the black bitch. It's a black Stollee Panda action in a black McMillan stock. I won two of my most treasured trophies, A bisley hat from a British Royal Marine and a pair of panties from a female member of the Russian rifle team with it.

Howdy-
The first 98Mauser I remodeled : screwed in an Isreali 308 surplus barrel ( years ago, with hebrew markings, got it new in grease at the time), and a Richard's Microfit thumbhole stock- Greta. Wears a Griffin and Howe side scope mount, and a 6x Leupold.
A heavy barreled, scoped 1906 Argentine 98 in 308- Miranda
an ultramatch M1A- Fibi ( after a pet whose name was badly misspelled by a bosnian Vet Tech ; was supposed to have been Phoebe )
A CZ 550 Safari in 416 Rigby ( great w cast bullets!)- Svetlana
Have a bunch that will always be nameless tools, I guess.

My 30-06 wby vanguard is called 'cupcake' (shes a cupcake compared to my 870 express with a 20in barrel and shortened stock). My 870 is the accident. The first day I shot it i put 300 shells through it (including 40 or so slugs). I felt like I was in a car accident the next day. Hence the name.

I call my single shot .270Win Gungnir.
In Norse mythology, Gungnir is Odin's magical spear; it always hits its mark and always kills with the sound of thunder!

My .35 whelen "The whelenator" Seems like what ever I shoot at gets alienated from the herd, lays down for a nap while the rest the herd takes off for greener pastues.
My wife insists that my M-1 is "that ugly gun", but I keep telling her it's a thing of beauty.

I've got a 300 Weatherby I call the Chiropractor because when I take it out the first time I pull the trigger it "pops" my back. My brother calls it the flamethrower though because he saw me shoot it at dusk one time and said it blew fire well over six feet out of the barrel.

I have a Savage 223 I rechambered to 22-378 AI, the old Eargesplitten-Loudenboomer. Miss "Ell" for short. My cousin liked it so much he had one done too. He calls it "Scoop" because he says you can just use an ice cream scoop to load the powder.

Got a Greek return 03a3 I call Black Nasty, Stock is VERY dark walnut and upon recieving it, it was covered head to toe in dirt and cosmoline. However after cleaning it (or so I thought) It was a good shooter. Even took it to Perry last year to shoot in the Springfiled match, However sitting it on the firing line and shooting it during Offhand it started leaching cosmo again, making the gun hard to hold onto and my off hand score suffered.

Built a "cosmoline oven" and have since cleaned it again,

I have a Winchester 94 in 444 Marlin I searched a long time for, trying to find one without porting. My shoulder wishes I'd settled for a ported model, it weighs about the same as 94 in 30-30 despite the heavier reciever (bigger hole).
I named it Winnie the BOOM.

I have a Winchester/USRAC '94 in .307 Winchester. The first year I hunted with the gun it dropped two deer. The 1st one fell over like somebody turned off a switch. The second was shot in the chest while walking towards my blind at about 15 feet. On impact it stood him up and off all four; causing him to land on his rump, then fall over on his side with only a slight kick. My Dad commented "Boy, that little gun really knocks the snot outta them." Ever since I call that carbine "Snotknocker."

My '94 Black Shadow .444 is called "Black Betty."

I have a beautiful M91 Argentine rifle that shoots way better than I could ever hope to. Her name is "Evita."

My two favorite Mosin Nagants are a 91/59 carbine and a 1927 Ishevesk rifle. I call them "Boris" & "Natasha."

For years I resisted naming guns because I thought it was silly. I finally got over it thanks to Black Friday.

Black Friday is my Savage 10 Predator Hunter in 22-250. I bought her on... Black Friday. Since then, she has proven to be a holy terror on woodchucks, rabbits, squirrels, and a couple coyotes.

After she broke the ice, I have acquired names for:

Swiss Miss - my Swiss K31
Miss Kim - Egyptian Hakim
Kill Switch - CZ 527 in 204 Ruger - kills stuff quicker than anything I've ever seen. No flopping, just DRT!
Cupcake - Savage 870 - licensed copy of a Browning A5, and it's a cupcake to shoot!

Still got some more that are looking for names, I'm sure I'll add appropriate ones as they develop.

boomstick! The twelve-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about a hundred and nine, ninety five. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.
