All this talk about concealed carry and I want to get a pocket holster for my 642. I usually just stick it in the pocket, but have been looking at holsters off and on for years, but never bought one..

Anybody have a favorite and why?

Not for the J-frame, but I have a "wallet type" which is leather with a large flap of
thick stiff leather on the side that will be away from my body. This breaks up the outline in the
pocket and it looks like a wallet or something else flat and square.

Mine is for a KelTech P3AT. Same idea should work for a J-frame.

I have all the major ones, (I think).

The Uncle Mike brand is compact and sticks well in your pocket, but allows the gun to print too much.

The DeSantis Nemeis is OK for an inexpensive one.

Also have a Mika, which I use sometimes.

Most of the time, I use an RKBA, which is nicely made out of leather. Bought it from a guy who inadvertently ordered a RH model but was left handed.

My daily carry is an S&W 642 with Crimson Trace #305 grips. I have a MIKA pocket holster and have been well pleased with it:

+1 on the Desantis Nemisis. They last about a year if carried daily, but work very well.

Thad Rybka makes a very good one. I made my own and used it for years carrying my old S&W M-38. Whatever you get, make sure that it doesn't come out with the gun when you draw your shootin iron. It is also nice if the bulge in your pocket doesn't look like a gun.

This has been my experience too. It works well for the investment required.

+1 on RKBA holsters. Very reasonable prices and he is happy to customize his designs for you.

I had Kramer pocket holsters for J frames and a LWS32. They were expensive then, and seem outrageously so now, but they hold up very well. The Seecamp holster rode in my back pocket and survived to be sold with the gun. I eventually sold the j frame holster and made part of the money back. So you can buy a DeSantis every year for $20 or buy a Kramer (or other high end maker) for $100  and use it for years. YMMV.

My Pastor just bought a Nemesis. He likes a lot. Carrying an M38 in it.

Had a 642, sold it to a friends wife. I now use the nemisis with my S&W m-36. Since I may not use the pocket holster everyday it may last a bit longer for being retentive in the pocket. I vary what I carry among my pistols for where I`m going or what I`ll be doing.Robert
