OK Guys, this is your chance to show us what you're made of! Let's see your pile of lead! It won't matter if you have a handfull or a truck full, let's see it. It gives everyone a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that there are supplies of lead out there! :drinks: I'll get mine glamour photographed tomorrow!

I reckon your right. That link I posted was pretty much folks just "saying" how much they had. I can see how seeing gimongous piles of sweet sweet lead is an honorable form of boolit porn. My apologies and post away!!

I have done okay this year as far as scrounging for lead. I traded a guy for almost a thousand pounds of linotype bars, my BIL has given me another 1000 pounds in lead ballast, and I have scrounged what is in this pic from scrap yards, tire shops, and who knows where else over the summer. I am guessing it is another 1000 pounds or so. Not anywhere close to where I want to be, but I am gaining on it. I set a goal at the beginning of the year, and try to work towards it throughout the year. If I go over the goal, I consider it gravy. Good luck in your collecting.

BTW out here I am seeing about a 25% net in ww's due to iron, and zinc weights...

This is what happens when you have to take your mind off of something...a complete lead inventory:

Range Scrap: 133 ingots, 418lbs, average 3.14lb per ingot
Stick ons: 18 ingots, 57.8lbs, average 3.21lb per ingot
Wheel Weights: 283 ingots, 355lbs, average 1.25lb per ingot

Total: 830lbs
Total grains: 5816125
24233 240gr boolits can be cast without any more lead

Not much yet but its a darn good place to start. Just make sure your muffin ingots will fit into your pot before you cast a bunch of them. Dont ask me how I can recommend that to you. LOL

I don't have any pictures of the lead I already have cleaned up into ingots. I store that lead in milk crates. They are easy to carry and very strong. I do have a picture of some WW that is waiting to be cleaned up. That is about half my buckets in the picture. Most buckets are as full as you can carry(barely). Tom.

Ricky P If i just had half of one of the rows in your first picture i would be set for the rest of my life.
How much do each of the ingots weigh on the pallet?

Doby that was a test to see who really looked and was not overwhelmed over all the lead lol. Well to tell the truth I have added more to the casted and lube cans and now labeling them even started a shelf to double up hard to move those cans around. I would warn anyone that is going to start storing bullets that way you better watch your finger when moving them around.
Kbstenberg I think those are around a lb each. If I remember right that was my last haul of WWs just got done smelting them down I store them in milk crates tucked away for later use.

Scrounging for lead is an addiction. No other explanation for it. Kind of reminds me of some of those places the guys on "American Pickers" visit. I have about 4,000#, which is more than I will ever use. And yet I scrounged another bucket today. I don't know what is wrong with me?? Tom.

Doby that one fell off the table above where I size and lube the real ? is how much will my floor hold starting to wonder about that. I think I add a 3/4 sheet of plywood to help spread out the weight more.
kbstenberg those if I recall are a lb each and it takes more of them then you think when you start casting. Lead just dont as far as it did is seems darn 4 and 6 cav molds lol.

Whooo hoooo I just got my first 5 gal bucket. Paid 20 bucks for it. Or local recyclers said 50 cents a pound for straight WW

MY pile of ingots is 6 feet wide, 3 feet deep and 4 feet high. I have no idea of the weight but it is piled on the concrete floor in my ex's garage.

At my trailer I presently have 24 5 gallon buckets of ww's under a tarp under the carport. I figure that it will take me at least 8 hours to render them into ingots and they will then reside in my tin shed adjacent to the trailer.

I have noticed a higher percentage of zinc and steel ww's recently and I expect that the present source of ww's will be drying up eventually and then I will have to resort to buying lead for casting.

These are the good old days....enjoy whilst you can.

I talked to several tire places to day and they said by the first of the year they would no longer have lead.

Still need to work out the compression thing so that I can post the pic of my modest stockpile. I'll have another go when I get back to my own computer in a couple of days. Lead percentages in Australia (at least where I live) are still prety good in wheelweights. I still estimate about 75% lead ,25% steel, clips, zinc and other rubbish.

I feel so, so poor. My meager stockpile wouldn't keep some of you guys shooting for a week!

I gotta start getting days off to do more scrounging

Grubby, welcome to the forum...I too am in Pocatello, I live off of 2/12 mile, about a mile from the range. If you need help or have a question with anything just PM me and I will try to answer the best I can. If you need some lube, we're fortunate to have Lar45 right down the road off of Hawthorne . He is a vendor sponsor on this sight. Just look on the sticky in the boolit lube section. He has every kind of lube you will need at a great price. Also, don't sweat the WW's, if you run low let me know, I have quite a bit !!

I keep mine under the gun cleaning bench. There are an additional 9 or 10 buckets of raw wheel weights out in the garage.

Hay thanks, I live on N. Arthur right by the Pit stop gas station, it used to be a chevron and now it is a Sinclair. I think I just got lucky with a neighbor, he is a pip fitter out at the new Hoku plant they are building and he said he could get me a piece of schedule 40 about 16" across and 6" deep to smelt my lead in. Now I just need a good burner.

Here is what I have gathered after many years of collecting. A good start, but not enought. :-)

I also have 50 lbs of 85/15 tin/antimony that I got on eBay last night.

Haven't really weighed any of it.
Main claim to fame is the 3 full buckets of clip-ons. Soldered pipe joints on top.
Dark bucket on left is ½ full of stick-ons.
LF is sheet lead and plumber pipe.
RF is isotope caps. "Liberty" ingot is 26lbs.
Yellow antifreeze bottle has some WW ingots.
In the back somewhere is a box of battery clamps, maybe 30lbs.
Out of pic is a few lbs of linotype I spotted at the metal yard.
Old ingots under workbench maybe 100lbs, and of course cans & boxes of boolits in basement.

Tempted to go back to the car salvage yard, was 40¢/lb last spring.
They had a 55gal drum full of WWs. Bet they charge more now.

PS: Thanks Mazo Kid for the tip, tree pruners/limb loppers sheared through the sheet and pipe pretty easy!
PPS: Forgot to mention several pounds of thrift store pewter.
