I cast up another batch this afternoon. I didn't realise just how many I had cast. I was water dropping into a 4ltr Ice Cream container and guessed I had 100 or so.

After doing a visual cull I have 273 left. I guess I culled about a 3rd, so I must have cast around 400.
I suspect I will cull another 1/4 by weight culling.

I have found little blemishes that dont effect 400 odd gn .458 bullets, make a hell of a differance to little .22 bullets. To be anything that resembles accurate, I need to cull anything that looks or weights even slightly out.

I couldn't get a decent picture with the flash because they are too shiny and I could not be bothered to get the tripod to take the pic without the flash.

Happy Days.

I've done some weight sorting now. :|

If I was a gambling man, I would bet that I'm getting 53.2 - 53.4 gn bullet from one cavity and 53.8 - 54.0 gn from the other.

I'm going to work up two loads, one with each bullet group and see how they go.

Happy Days

Tikka T3, 222 rem.

In the 222 rem I manage to get the lub grooves in the neck without the gas check protruding into the case.

joel0407 :

You're certainly going about it right. I'm impressed with your weighing and sorting system. If accuracy is to be obtained , you're on the right track so far ! Thought you might like to see my 415' that has been hp'd. Mine shoot real well.

By the way, these have not been sorted yet as you can see by a close look at the photo.

Thanks Ben.

Your the second to tell me that.

I might be better ordering a new mold from someone who can HP the mold for me. Any suggestions.

I heard Buckshot does them.

I have managed to get my weight variation on both my .22 moulds (415 and 462) down to +/- .2gr by make new sprue plate from 1/4 aluminum and drilling 2mm/.78 pouring holes. Really works!

i'd make a mark in one of the cavities then you could verify weight diff's.
you could also measure them and see if the weight diff is something correctable.
