Well i accidentally posted this on the BPC forum, now I've got it in the right place and I'm looking for your input.

I've got a BB94 top eject and I have been trying to find a steel Lyman 66. Lurking on eBay and all the other auctions I know of hoping to find the right deal. Now I see this Lyman 56 and it looks very similar and seems like it might fit my rifle. I can't find a lot of info on the 56 so I'm asking you guys.

Will this work on a top eject BB94?

What are the differences in the 56 and 66?

Preferences?

Thanks guys and girls in advance.

The 66 is made for flat side rifles such as the Win 94 and Marlin 336 and 39. The 56 is made for rounded receivers such as many of the bolt action rifles. The 56 will not fit a gun that needs a 66 unless you get someone to machine the 56 till it fits. Try Midsouth Shooters Supply for a good price on Lyman peep sights.

Thanks,

The only reason I started looking was an ebay ad "Lyman 56 Receiver Sight for 94 Winchester" good to know it won't fit. Thanks for the the info on midwest, but I'm not in a rush. Going to try to hold out for one of the old steel ones.

I once had a Lyman 56 for the German 8mm rifle and I got a gunsmith to make it fit a Ruger 77 which is a basically a flat side receiver. I had him drill and tap mounting holes in the Ruger to fit the sight. It worked fine. You could do the same if you can't find what you want otherwise.

Uh, hate to disagree, but... the old Model 56 IS for flat sided rifles. The Model 66 is the new aluminum made version of that sight. The Model 57 is for rounded (bolt action) rifles. I have a 56 mounted on a Marlin 1936, and also on an original M1894.

cwskirmisher,

Thanks for the correction. 66 is the current sight for flat sided rifles, 56 is the discontinued steel version of the same. 57, then and now fits rounded actions.

Williams gun sight still makes a receiver sight have you considered them? I have one on a early model 94 in 30 W.C.F. (30-30)

I do have a Lyman 56 is is on a Winchester model 1907 a nice shooting semi-auto with flat sides.

Gents, I offer my agreement with Hurricane and CWSkirmisher-
My knowledge of Lyman receiver sights is ok, but certainly not perfect. That being said, the Lyman 57 sight is the one for the bolt action guns with the round receiver.
The Lyman 66 WAS a steel receiver sight for the flat-sided rifles, only being made in an aluminum alloy in the past 2 years or so.
I am of the understanding that the Lyman 56 is a steel sight for the flat sided rifles, and came to the marketplace years before the 66, which ultimately replaced it. If you find a 56 in decent condition, buy it, as they were very well made.

Just an Old Guy offering his OPINION-- and I've been wrong before!

When I got my Win. BB several years ago I went through the same search for a receiver sight. I could find no Lyman sight made for the BB receiver, Williams did make one just for the BB receivers. I have been happy with the Williams.

Williams does indeed make a Foolproof just for the BB94; the back is machined to match the
extra-thick portion of the rear of the receiver. They are well-made sights... much better, in my experience, than the aluminum version of the Lyman 66. (Lyman switched to aluminum from steel in 1972.)
