View Full Version : Range trip with the garand

Finally got out for some range time with my M1 Garand. Ammo was mixed brass, WLR primers, 39.0grs of military mystery powder, and 170 FNGC lee boolits,, lubed with teflon tape. Here are the pics.

Be very careful on your mystery powders. Garands have a specific burn rate to operate within. THere is no need to potentially break your Operating Rod due to trying to save a few pennies on the powder. OPRODS run about 150-200 dollars to replace.

i'm 99% sure its 4895. Factory charge was 45-ish grains with a 150gr bullet. I started at 33 grains and worked up until the gun cycled reliably and stopped there. The recoil and action operation is noticebly softer than GI spec ammo.
