LLA removal

just got done casting sizing and lubing some new 45's. unfortunately I did not think before lubing and applied Lee Liquid Alox. I changed my other mind and would rather pan lube them. I have the lube made. is there any way to remove the LLA or can i put new lube over it?

I would think soaking them a little while in Mineral spirits would take most of it off. I'm not sure how easily it will work after the snot has dried.
Or just lube over them, that's over doing it though.

Why don't you just shoot them and see how they perform.
I'm too lazy and cheap to spend money on a solvent to remove something that isn't going to hurt anything.
Sure, pan lube them as is. There is still a big lube groove or two you can fill with your pan lube.
However, like I said, I would shoot these as is and pan lube another batch and see how each performs.
I would also shoot some as-cast (unsized) bullets lubed any way you want for comparison.
You should be trying to discover what works best for you and your guns. Experiment. Have fun.

heat in oven on about 200* and put on paper towles most all will be off but as said just pan if you want to go that way the lube you have now is better

I have used a multipurpose concentrated cleaner called "L.A.'s Awesome"
$1 per quart at the Dollar store, it worked great.
I soaked the boolits overnight,
I used it full strength, and saved the liquid when done for re-use.
in the morning I rinsed with water, then they are ready for re-lube.

It is mostly removed in flight. The lead recycles from my traps and makes new, shiny boolits that can be lubed however I like.

Shoot 'em. LLA is fine for big, fat low-velocity .45 boolits.

Or, pan lube 'em.

Or, throw 'em back in your pot and re-cast.

Oh, forgot to mention, if you used straight LLA, wipe the noses before sticking them in your magazines. They can get gooey.

I use mineral spirits. I put them in a container and pour it in. Let it soak overnight and then put them on paper towels. I don't want to have to clean out the goo from my guns. It is enough to get fouling out to have to add that to the mix. Mineral spirits is cheap.

I have fired traditional lube groove handgun boolits with LLA. Works fine.
This is at velocities less than 1000 fps.

I have actually pan lubed boolits that already had mule snot on them. I did this for the sons 30-06 for low velocity plinkers with no gas checks.

I figured either one was good, both would be better. They shot well (9gr Unique) with no leading.

Put them in a container and add mineral spirits to just cover. Lightly agitate for about 2 minutes. Drain and let dry on a paper towel. 98% of the LLA will be gone.

Did this a bunch after I got my Lachmiller and wanted to put pretty lube in everything.

this is for a lee 300 gr truncated cone gas checked for a 454 casull.

just conventionaly lube them over the alox.

Boil them in water for a couple of minutes. The lube floats to the top.

I've gone back to tumble lubing 110%, all with superb results.

Why bother with pan lubing? Work smarter, not harder.

I'm probably going to sell my RCBS luber to stay with tunble lubing.
