Hi Chargar,
I have sent a PM to you. If that does not come thru, try this:

http://www.gunloads.com/castboolits/private.php?do=newpm&u=64

Robert

no 1 --- you won't be able to PM me unless you get my handle correct. It is ChargAR and not ChargEr. Speaking of PM... I have tried about a half dozen time to send you a PM, but the system tell me no such user. The only thing I can figure is that you have me blocked. I need to give you my shipping address, but don't know how. I don't want to post it here.

Where have you been?

Robert

I guess the wrong place at the right time.

Don't worry I catch up to the 30 cal buy
one of these days.

Robert, assuming Gregg still wants 5K of the 30 cal GB, is there are problem in reducing my order of 10K down to 5K and letting Gregg have it? I am sure my 5K will last me until the next buy come up again. :drinks:

If this is not possible, I will be quite happy with the full order of 10K.

In advance, thanks for your consideration, Bob

Anything is possible, Bob, and you know that. But, we have to keep things as simple as possible to eliminate a bad dream from becoming a nightmare (paperwork, mainly). I am not speaking for Robert here, but suggesting we keep the books closed for now, and let you guys split the order on your own after the main order is delivered as is. This is why we decided to continually print out the orders on who is getting what over and over. This I did not do, and wish I did during the ordering process for the mother of all gascheck GBs. The only thing that I request is that the price of goods remains the same as paid up front between parties, and those parties are members of our board or at least local friends. No ebay sales allowed, period!!! Surcharged prices are contrary to what we are doing here. ... felix

No ebay sales allowed, period!!

I like that note Felix. The time and trouble put forth by the honcho's is beyond any reasonable notion that selling on ebay would be OK. I would consider it nearly treason.

PC Bob,
Your offer to share you order with Gregg is certainly honorable but might not be needed. I have already had some people bail out on the deal. I did not reduce the count so there should be extras. If there are extras, I will try to pass them out fairly on a first come first serve basis. If it becomes a PITA, I will sit on them till the buy comes around again.

Felix,
I agree completely with you and stand behind your response. It is exactly what you and I talked about before.

45Nut,
Thank you. You summed it up. Those who have not honcho'd a GB have no earthly idea the trouble it brings. I cannot tell anyone what to do with the GC's they purchase but would request the members respect our desires of no ebay resales of these items.

Robert

I have enough GC's to get by fine.
I will just see if there is extras or wait for the next buy.

I would like to extend my Thank's all involved with this GCGB. No1 is #1, Felix you have shared Lube recipe and the mother of all smelters with the FWFL buy was by far I am sure was a TON OF WORK, and 357 Max your sharing your Lube recipe Buckshot with you informative and highly detailed information (Pics included) with a simple question I asked "should I harden die for swaging" I could go on and on would need a forum just for "Thank You's" for all information and help. Truly a family and I must say a Band of Brothers Always Faithful

As for anyone buying Gas Caps for there profit. Well "Persona non Grata!"

The shooting sport has always has been part of my growing up. Dad found time and money to take me from state to state also Camp Perry for National Matches had the priviledge to on teams with World Class shooter and everyone of them regular Joe's willing to share how to become a better shooter. And not one of them on a high hourse. Can't say that for a pro Ball players. I met some of the greatest folks in the World and met them in the same place, The Shooting forum.
With that said: I have found the same people on "Cast Boolits"
This has brought back fond memories of my youth.
I Thank You All

I don't think anybody does anything they don't want to. THat being said, I don't know why anybody would want to resell these. Seems like a big hassle to me, the price is going to be around 20 bucks. I can buy hornady's for less than 21, and don't need to buy half a million of em either. Doesn't seem like anybody would be able to make that much money off of em.

Regardless of what the price is 15,16, 17, 8. I wouldn't expect someone to be able to make big time bucks off of selling them on ebay or whereever. Keep talking though, I got checks to seat.

I figured up the cost of my order a little while ago. Even paying extra for the 1K bagged option and figuring shipping the cost is about $17.00/K. I figure by the time I use up all the ones I ordered they will be $75/K. Payment is in the mail.

You are absolutely right! The price cannot be beat. The quality is what sold me. If you have some of the other manufacturers GC's compare them to the GatorChecks when they arrive. I am stocking up myself. They do not go bad.....

I am with ya'll but let's wait a "couple of 3 weeks or so" before I post the next one. 2 is hard enough to keep track of and I do not want to run 3 at a time. Once all the funds for the 30 & 35 are collected I will start the next one. A hint is it will be a "2 banger" which means there will be a popular caliber running along side one that is not so popular. This way everybody gets a chance to get theirs in a timely manner.

Robert

Lloyd;

I'm in for 5k 30 cal and could be talked out of some if you are in dire need.

I'm more interested in splitting an order of 45 cal with someone later, when they come up. I want a couple of k but don't need anywhere near 5k.

I get to Marquette or Munising often enough to make a face to face exchange possible.

I would say do the .44 and .50 pistol first. 6 weeks later do something like a .475 and .45. Just a thought. Doing too many popular calibers at once may limit how many some can buy at once. For instance, I would rather buy 10K .44 and 5K .50 instead of having to get 5K each of .44, .45, and .50. We gotta be thinking about the small calibers at some point, too.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I know we are all getting a little antzy on the Gatorcheck GB. We have ask Larry (the Gator) to kick out close to 800,000 gaschecks for the 30 and 35 cal GB. It took him a little time to get the correct metal at the best price. Once he got that all he needed to do was punch these baby's out BUT as we all know it is not that simple. He has a full time job, a family and the recent past holidays which I am sure he wanted to enjoy. He did call Felix (see post #330) about 2 weeks before Christmas indicating he had about 40k of the 30's done with an offer to send those now. Felix decline the delivery since we want to receive complete delivery at one time. This makes it easy for me to count them all in case there is some shortage. Please hang in there. We picked the 2 most popular calibers for this one and it may take a little more time.

Thanks,
Robert

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Not to be confused, the pic that Felix posted was from the MOAGCGB's that he did a couple of years ago. That was 1.2 million gaschecks which consisted of all calibers. I am hoping we will exceed that number in total once we make the first circle of calibers. So far we have done roughly 80k in the 323 and about 800k in the 30/35 deal. We still have more calibers to go! Next buy will be the 44 and something else. Probobly a small rifle caliber. Please do not post your desires until the post for the next deal shows up.

We are still waiting for the gaschecks on the 30 & 35 cal gb.

Guys, Larry called a little while ago and said he is done with the 35 cal checks. He said he is 100K shy of finishing the 30's. Because of the fact that more than several folks are getting both species, we won't mail out any flavor without the other going to the same person. Please have patience. Larry also said the commercial guys have been ordering as well, and they have priority. However, their runs are considerably smaller than ours. We are actually getting a better price than they are for some calibers. ... felix

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Great news! I just got the word that the Gator is finished with our order and is to begin shipment to my location. It will be 4-5 boxes of 50k/box per shipment. I expect it to take a week or so for all to arrive. I will begin the counting process once they begin arriving to get a total count before I start dividing the orders up. My packing list is in zip code order so I will pack then ship in zip code order. Since I am using this method those with the lowest zip will be shipped first. Once all orders are divided/boxed I will begin shipment. I will be shipping the orders during my lunch hour at work so the amount of orders I ship per day will depend on how many boxes I can fit inside my extended cab S-10.

We will be using a computer program to directly accept orders, and to report progress, for the next caliber(s). We will use this board to notify how to reach this program without hassle. In addition, the program will, in short time, be ready to handle the same work for the mold Honchos, as well as for the gascheck Honcho, Robert. The program is being checked out throughly at present, and minor changes are being made weekly. ... felix

It will be 4-5 boxes of 50k/box per shipment.

Not being critical here, just wondering about the math.

5 x 50k = 250k

I thought the .30 GB was like 470K. I don't know about .35 since I am not a contributor.

Clarification?

Each delivery will be 4 to 5 boxes that have 50k per box = 250k per delivery. You can only fit maybe 50k per 1 cubic foot box and that box weights maybe 30-40 lbs.
The delivery guy will be dropping about 250k every time he shows. There will be shipments arriving like this for days since there is around 800k coming.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

The first of many loads arrived last night. I now have on hand 101k out 470k of the 30 cal GatorChecks. There should be deliveries every day the mail runs so I anticipate complete delivery of this caliber to me by the middle of next week. I will begin sorting once all have arrived and estimate they will begin going out to you the 1st week of Feb. Once I have started the deliveries of this GB I will announce the next.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I received another load of GatorChecks yesterday. It appears we are waiting on one more shipment. I received notice it went out yesterday (monday) and he has been sending them priority mail so it should be her no later than weds or thurs. I have the USPS priority mail boxes on hand as well as all the remaining shipping needs. I will divide the shipments up this week and weekend then begin mailing to you next monday (feb 5th.).

I finished dividing the 35's not long ago. I am in the boxing process now. Takes time to assemble the boxes. I am about 1/3 through the list for loading the boxes. I am kinda tired. I have been at this since about 8:30 am with only smoke breaks, 1 nap and short food break. I will stop for the day in a little while.

Once all are boxed, I will check the list twice. I think I will need more packing material. Maybe I will buy a butt load of the local newspapers tomorrow when I make the next beer run.....

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I posted way back that when the time came if there were extras I would announce it and you would each have equal chance on a first come first serve basis. There are extras (although there are not a lot) on the 30 & 35 from people who bailed out. I will have a final count of "extras" once I re-check each order. You must post on this thread to be seen by everyone.
In other words: PM'S WILL BE IGNORED

BTW, if 4fingermick or Sven want "extras" I would ask all to consider letting them have first dibs since it is a huge PITA to ship them at a later date but at this point it would be easy to add to their package that is getting ready to ship.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today I shipped 32 of 94 packages via the USPS. Tomorrow I will ship another load and the following day I will get the rest out. For our buddies in Canada, Sweden and the Outback I am working on yours and should have them out by next monday latest.

Please remember that if you requested insurance you will need to sign for your package when the postman arrives.

I am combining the GatorCheck Gb threads into one location so people can see what is going on instead of searching the board and possibly posting to the wrong thread.

As most of you know, Wiljen, Felix and myself are working (Wiljen is the brains) on a web based program for ordering. I believe it is in the final stages of completion. Once we collectively decide it is "good to go" we will be ready to run the next calibers. It will be very user friendly and because it will generate reports for me we will lower the amount of GatorChecks needed for a "buy in" from 5k to 2.5k on most and 1k on those really big ones.

For those waiting on the "spares", I want to finish sending out what is on hand, wait a week for all to arrive then I will post the list of what is available and to whom it is going (based on what you posted here).

We are striving to improve our process and thank you for hanging in.

There were 27 more packages shipped today. As a reminder, if you requested insurance you MUST sign for the package in order to receive it. I am not trying to be short but once the packages leave the US, there is no telling how long it will take to get through your customs.

Now, if we can find a mold maker with as high of standards as Larry the Gator has for his checks. I know for sure that Veral would do justice to the dimensions we deliver in a drawing, but then he would have to learn how to re-program his machinery all over again. It seems he won't do any mold design other than what he has pre-programmed. If somebody knows him fairly well, maybe they could see if he might be interested in at least doing 4 bangers with our designs. ... felix

Got mine yesterday, opened them this AM. You're right, Robert, the packaging is overkill, but then mine came through OK the first time. When I have to dig around in the peanuts to find the bag I consider it overkill. The big mailorder companies do it that way all the time, I've always thought it overkill but obviously they don't.

Thanks Very Much for the effort, both in doing this and in setting up the process for the future.

The Rural Postman delivered mine today. Tis a beautiful sight ... 10,000 35 cal gas checks. I do not remember being so happy since the time Felix's GB checks arrived at my home. There are some wonderful and selfless people on this board. There is not an easy way to express my thanks to each and everyone of you. I hope that at some time I can serve the folks on this board as have the people before me. You are all a bunch of great guys.

My box of 30 and 35 caliber gas checked arrived yesterday in fine shape. Today a GB mold also arrived. It's been a good week.

I do like how the gallon ziplock bags are marked to identify the contents. It was the same with the 8mm GC. I do apprecate this nice feature. Years from now, I will apprecate it even more.

For those running the GB Molds, please consider marking the outside of the Lee box to identify the mold.

To all those involved, you have my thanks and a Well Done.

I actually print that kind of stuff for a living. If a honcho wants some labels for the lee boxes, I could print them up with a descriptive label and a diagram of the cavity. Maybe even stick the gunloads logo on there, with requisite site permission of course.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We are starting the next GatorCheck Group Buy.

The following GC's are open: .41, .44, .50 Pistol, .50 rifle short shank, .50 rifle long shank. We are using a new web based program to do all ordering. Because the web based program saves me a lot of time, we are offering the gaschecks in smaller incriments. You will see that the minimum is now 3000 on most and some are 2000 or less. We still offer the 1k option as well as insurance and delivery confirmation. There is also a option to donate to Gunloads.com and to CastBoolits website. All funds donated will be sent to Gunloads/Castboolits under the name of the GatorCheck GB that is current. We will still discuss the gatorchecks here but all ordering will be there. If you have already created a user name on the website then it will still work. If you are new then you must create a user name and password. Once in you must complete the user info page. Please complete all fields including name and phone number. Felix has offered to monitor the process and if you have problems just let him know.
CLICK HERE ----> http://groupbuys.dnsalias.com/

Thanks,

Robert

Ps. The current GB started on post 464 of this thread.

As far as the next calibers. Please use the group buy website: http://groupbuys.dnsalias.com/ to make your orders.

I gotta Q about the .41 gaschecks listed on the groupbuy page. I see they are listed as thin. Will they work on .416 and .405 or will I need to wait to a different check to be ordered.

Also, and I may have overlooked it, but what is going to be the cutoff point of each order and how do we know when it it being approached?

Beau

felix
02-20-2007, 10:42 AM
Beau, hopefully somebody will send you some samples of each, some 41 Lymans and some 416s so you can find out. I don't have any of either. I think either will fit on the shanks, but you won't like the Lymans on the boolits made for 416. You must feel the final check diameters after sizing, to see if the Lymans are not too loose on the shanks. SOMEBODY, PLEASE HELP and PM Beau for his addy and send him some samples so we all can know.

I will talk to Larry and see if he can make the 416s in this next run in addition to the 41 Lymans. The metal thickness is the criteria. He has enough of the thin stuff in stock, but might not have enough of the thicker to make a reasonable deadline.

Also, an idea here, is to put up all the checks not run yet this last 6 months, and let ALL the check flavors be available. And, then based upon Larry's time and stock, we can set the final closing dates accordingly. EVERYONE, PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS.

Sounds like a plan for putting up everything up for grabs, so to speak.

As far as the .41 checks go. No hurry. Its not like I haven't been looking at a bucket of .416's for the past year. I even have a box of 1k Hornady GC's and appropriate sizer sitting there.... Just too many irons in the fire right now. Same for the .405. When I get back from shooting a cow elk in NM sunday I may measure the shank on my RCBS and NEI bullets and measure the Hornady GC's for comparison if anybody cares to measure theirs.

This long or short shank is new to me, I will be working with a .50-90 Sharps but don't have a mold yet. I am waiting for the rifle to return from a gunsmith and wanted to lay in components. Is shank length peculiar to specific mold numbers?

Felix,
I think that would be an exceptional idea but wouldn't limit it to undone checks.
I'd suggest that Larry be set up to 'inquire' into the order backlog so he would be able to possibley plan his activities without having to go through anyone here(strictly as time saving).
I know he makes big runs for commercial and other entities, but if he knew what we had in the order backlog, he could then run them as well. Maybe even give us a heads up for those who are trying to decide.
Also that way when we have a 'slow' mover and he gets an order for that size he could fill our back ordered checks and everyone would be happy.
Well probably most folks anyway.
I just hope all the honchoes could move their GB online as soon as possible.
Thanks.

Being the HONCHO and the one doing the physical work on our end I am against this idea. I wanted this to be fast hit stuff where the cals, 1 at a time are posted, the buy has a short run (this last one was way too long) then larry sends me some product that I can work thru fast to get it out to the members. The first buy (.323's) went well. The second GB started as the 30's then turned into 2 cals fast. The 30's closed then re-opened because 35's were not done. By the time it got to my house there were 19 boxes that took over a week to arrive because of the post office then took me over 3 weeks to sort, package and ship the 98 boxes.

This new GB is doing 4 calibers (remember 1 cal at a time in the beginning?) which I am willing to try since all have the same end date.

If we open them all up I see the following problems:

1)There are a tremendous amount of GB's going on. Moulds by the dozens, LLA substitute and GC's. I cannot see people being able to pony up to have GasChecks move at a fair rate.

2) There is not a set price on anything since he does not have the stock on hand to make "all the flavors" so how are the people going to commit, send funds and assure larry the money will be there when he produces. At best we can get a BASIC idea of what is wanted right now but not maybe not 6 months from now when this goes down. Unless Larry wants to provide a SOLID price right now that people can count on later when it goes down then it will do no good to open it.

3) Sorting product once it arrives. I work full time, have a family and of course the chores of husband/dad/property owner. I cannot commit large amounts of time to this venture (read as long periods in a row).

4) Shipping product.
a)I can do "click and ship" online but it is a HUGE PITA to print labels on 8 1/2 x 11 paper then fold & tape it to a box then call the post office to arrange a pick up at my house.
b)I can buy stamps in $4.05 increments, use the website program William made me to print AVERY brand labels, then stick stamp and labels. The main problem is getting it to the Post Office which on the last buy took 4 trips during my lunch hour. (again, see the last sentence of #3)

Those are my thoughts.

Robert

Yes, Clyde. Short 512 checks, and the 500 S&W checks, are 0.080 in length. The tall 512 checks are 0.120 or slightly more, say 0.150 max. You should tell the mold maker to provide enough shank length to allow the check some breathing room on its top. If you want extra lube down there next to the check, make sure the shank is on the longer side of things. Too much shank won't hurt a 650-750 grainer boolit, unless the boolit design is quite long and pointed, leaving a much smaller bearing surface. Keep in mind, the 50BMG has a standard of 16 twist. This is quite fast for a cast boolit gun in 512 diameter where the boolit design would be meant for shorter ranges with a meplat. ... felix

Larry is the last person we want to pressure in any way. We all want exquisite quality control first and foremost, even over price and availability. Hornady has no chance to compete in any way except for availability, and that is going down hill with them as well. It appears they are placing much more emphasis on their dies lately, and that is where their objectives should be in my opinion. ... felix

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have been talking to Felix about opening the GB to include all calibers. I want to know what you think about this idea.

The pros and cons can be many but a few are as follows:

Larry does not have the metal on hand to do all the calibers but will order it when we get enough interest (and count) for him to buy it.

We have to set a price for ya'll to plan for. Since he does not know the price of the metal in advance, the price will be inflated somewhat but not a lot. We will try to balance this figure where if the price is less, then we will buy more GC's and you will get more for your money. If the price is more, then you will have to either back out or pony up. On a side note, the price should be less than the BIG guys charge and the quality will be the superior quality you have come to know.

We will set the close date maybe 6-7 months from now so Larry can get it done and to me so I can get it done before the holidays.

Once you order, you need to gather funds and send as a PMO (no checks this time) that will be held until Larry sends to me. Downside, What if you order more than one caliber and he does not have all ready? I cannot really store 100 boxes around my house without SWMBO getting antzy.

Even though we do monster GC GB's, Larry's commercial customers come first. So we will fall second. Upside, if he is doing a run for them, he can tag ours onto the run.

Last but not least, you could be waiting till the end of the year for your order.

One final plan is to open the GB 2 times a year (JAN and JUNE) for all calibers in the future and let it run about 4 months. Give Larry 1 month to get them done and me 1 month to get them out to you.

Please respond with your thoughts as we cannot think of everything.

Thanks for your support and time,

Robert

I think we should go ahead and at least finbish the present buy and take advantage of the lower priced metal that Larry has on hand. Tehn to do the twice a year buys would be a great idea.

All good points. Let's say we do all the checks once a year like the great buy of last year. But, instead, have different ones for selection in each quarter of the year, meaning 4 seperate closing dates. We can change the computer program to break on closing date so the invoicing/billing will be for only that closing date to include only the checks ordered for that closing date. ... felix

I'm all for that one.

Jon

felix
02-21-2007, 01:42 AM
OK, Jon, let's see what it would take to change the program via Wilgen. He is the person doing the actual work. For what size checks in which quarter year would be up to Larry. He has two assembly lines, and he wants to use them both concurrently when doing our checks. However, to speed things up when he is working both machines, he want to use different thicknesses for each line. That would mean a thick check in one line, and a thin one in the other. That would keep one line, by odds, open and ready for a die change to make a commercial order pronto, should that all it would take. There are 4 different metal thicknesses he uses. Not sure of exactly 4, could be more. ... felix

Robert, These group buys have taken on a life of their own. I'm not complaining but as a person who has been the end user of both yours and Felix's hard work I have to congratulate both of you. Having said that maybe we should go back to the one caliber at a time group buy. This would make things easier on all concerned. I looked at my supply of gas checks and at this time need .375, .44 and 45 rifle (45/70). It may benefit the purchasers of group buy gas checks as they would have to pay for one caliber at a time. Yes I know that some folks need multipile calibers and I'm one of them, but will wait until the caliber I want comes up any pony up at that time. Not trying to start any flame wars just my two cents worth. Frank

We can? not without fouling up other products as gas checks are not a seperate table, and we already discussed trying to break on a moving date not being realistic. Please ask these things in private before they get proposed in public as my time is limited and some of these things are easier than others. Breaking on date would require rebuilding the system and I don't have time to do that. If someone else wants to step forward to help thats fine too, but don't set me up like that.

Yes, Bob, there is, especially when we go to quarter-year deals. The problem is the choice has to be made between 44 and 45 because they use the very same metal thickness, and the current supply at Larry's is low right now. ... felix

Wiljen has the final say on this. The problems are more than you'd think in changing code that works on the internet. Of course, most of you all know that if you been around this board long enough. Performance issues are a major problem too because the hardware and programmers are always going to be limited in "freebee" situations. Will, you are not going to be set-up for anything. It is your call entirely. ... felix

Gents - thanks for all you do. I'm happy to wait as long as needed and make payment adjustments along the way. All I need are 5k of (any remaining) .30 cal CGs.
