I am having a BSA Large Martini action turned into a 25 Kraig AI Improved. My eyes are such that I'm putting scopes on almost everything.

If anyone has done this could you tell me what options I have for mounting a scope on this action?

I've only seen barrel mounts on these puppies. I had a Cadet action in .218 Bee many years ago and it required some semi-custom made bases. A bit of mix and matching bases with a little trimming to get a level scope base.

That's kinda what I figured, that's why I asked those who have done it.

Just looked in De Haas's single shot book. While he says to use scope bases like the ones used on the rem auto and pump rifles you would need extra high rings to get clearance over the action to load, unfortunately this was for the cadet size action. He does show pics of target blocks like the lyman and unertl scopes use and in one pic does show a unertl scope on a large martini. In fact most large martini's I have seen do utilize the scope blocks and one form or another a target scope. Frank

I have found it to be a rather simpe matter to simply take a piece of angle iron and drill and tap holes for scope bases. The particular rifle that I did this to was already drilled and tapped for a similar Australian side mount by the brand name "FIELD". This mount was not only made of soft aluminum but did not allow enough eye relief for the scope that I selected. I used a milling machine to make this mount but in previous ears I have made similar mounts with a hacksaw, files and drill press. Hope this gives you iseas. Neil

Hello
Standard Weaver Bases on my 444 Marlin
As you can see I used the shortest rings that would allow me to load the action
and have the scope clear the gun.
Also changed the lever from a long lever to a short lever.

If you can, check the Rifle no 63. This was a small action but he used the old style target scope mounts (blocks) which mount on the barrel. I would go this way if you have or can get one of the old target scopes. Unertl, Fecker or Lyman. Just a thought as have several of these scopes and I love them. They look very good on older actions.

MVA Blocks and a MVA Scope will be classic.

I used Weaver bases on the barrel and some high offset rings on the scope as per the attached photo.

Probably not what you have in mind, but this "strap-on" mount allows a long eye-relief pistol scope to be mounted on a Martini Henry without any alterations.

My goal was a 4" group at 100 meters, and it took this odd looking setup to accomplish it.
