are you talking cast bullets. Its a bit fast for the 338 and 270 using jacketed bullets. Its borderline fast in the 243 too for absolute top velocitys but not to far out. If you want one powder to load all three something like 4350 or 414 would be a bit better.

Thanks for the reply Lloyd. I'm just using J words at this state of the game

I use H-4831 or R-22 for the .338W and the .270W with J-words. For the .243W and J-words, my choice would be either AA 2520 or AA4350. Two out of three, not bad. The .243W shoots clover leafs with AA2520 and 55 grain Nostler BT's. My 308's like AA2520 also and it meters exceptionally well.

Varget works very well in the 243 with 75 - 85 gr varmint bullets. I push the 75 gr HP to 3400 fps out of my M70 with Varget. I use H4831SC under the 100 gr hornady SPBT for 3000+ fps for deer/antelope.

When i had a 270 (before Varget was available) I used H4831 also, perfect powder for 130 - 150 gr bullets. I would think Varget would be a little to fast burning for optimum results in the 270.

Sorry, no 338 Win Mag either. If I want more than the '06 I go straight to the .375 H&H;-)

Varget is great in 6BR with 70g jacketed bullet. It is very accurate in my 45-70 using 350 g Ranchdog. Very close to 4064

Like Larry Gibson, I have had good luck with Varget and light bullets in the 243. Close to MAX loads from the Nosler Fifth Edition for the 55 and 70 Ballistic Tips are both quite accurate from my Model Seven.

IMHO for the 243 Varget is one of the better powders out there. I use Varget in a 270 with good results with some bullet combinations, but I have found H4831 to be a better powder for the 270 from my person experience. I also use Varget as my #1 powder for a 22-250 and a 35rem.

I use varget in my 6mm varmint loads. Hornady makes a 80 gr fmj that shoots under an inch and does minimal damage to coyote pelts.

I've never owned a 270 although I do think varget works just fine in a 243. One said earlier "much like 4064". In the 338 win mag RL19 is my go to powder.

Varget is sold under it's original name here, AR2208. Popular in 243s and 308s biut fast for the 270 I'm thinking.

Search for Thales/ADO powders and look up AR2208 you will see the applications. Hodgson probably have similar info. Clays, Varget, etc, they all come from Australia. Great quality powder. Probably cheap over there as well.

AR2209 is equivalent to 4350 ans is a powder I use a lot in 3006 and will probably try in my new (1949 model) pre 64 Winchester Model 70, which is also a 270.
