I am moving the levers I can't see to shoot, and replacing them with boltguns with scopes. PIC (http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/ad54/LEVERACTIONSHOOTERS/WINCHESTER%2070/M705.jpg) I'm just tired of this squinting battle every time I go to the range. I find myself making up excuses not to go because I can't see peeps or irons.

These are the three I would like to get.
New Model (FN Plant)
Winchester .338 Magnum .270 and .243
I have never had a 338 or a .270 but used the .243 for coyote hunting in the 70's.
I would be getting all three guns and was wondering what you guys though of the vesatility?

The 338 is a great round that will take care of anything from whitetail to big bear and even bigger game with the right bullet. Im not a fan of the 270. Never owned one and never will. I wont argue that it isnt a good killer it is. I just got fed up with the fact that every local rifleman that talks the talk but doesnt walk the walk thinking that becasue he had a 270 he was some kind of knowlegable rifleman. I use the 2506 280 and 06 alot and basicaly there all in the same ball park. The 243 is a great long range varmit round and a decent deer round too but if i was just looking for a varmit gun id probably go with the 22250. It kills game the size of coyote and smaller just as well shoots just as flat and does it with less recoil and cheaper bullets. Keep in mind these are only opinions and everyone has a differnt one.

.338 perfect great really big game round

.270 why not will handle all the medium stuff up to elk whats not to like there? Not to mention flat shooting and hard hitter.

.243 I like better that the 22-250 shoots better at long range than a .22 unless you want a custom '250 with a fast twist. The .243 will shoot the various 55 grains plastic tipped wonders faster and still handle bullets up to 100 grains for light big game.

I think you made three great choices my 2 cents worth.

I'll second that! That is exactly my rifle battery except for an additional .308W thrown in for good measure!!
