I've heard of Rimed cases but this is way rimmed, No markings of any sort (suggests military?)

Can you give us some dimensions? That might help make a determination.

I'd be willing to bet that those are for an old Maynard rifle. They used to do some strange looking thick wide rims similar to those.

............Maynard also had percussion ignited cartridges. The cone was contained in the standing breech while the cartridge case had a tiny hole to admit the flash from the cap. They had those outsized rims also. Some Maynard cases actually had a hole in the rim with a string looped though it. T remove the case from the breech you'd pull on the string. THAT was you extractor![smilie=l: Maynard built some exceeding accurate rifles in their day and in fact at one time Maynards were THE hot single shot target rifles.

" #3 is the Model 1873 style, with the wide, thick rimmed head soldered to the case, the joint being about 1/4" above the upper surface of the rim. This style incorporates a Berdan primer in the head of the case
The dome shaped primer has the two indents (one to each side) in the case rim."

I'll post measurements asap

Since I'm not a collector (an accumulator definitely; just ask the wife) can anybody suggest a route / forum/ buyer for me to move these on?

Gunbroker would be the place with the largest 'viewing audience'....but there are probably a few other specifically ammo oriented forums where you might get some hits too.
