Last year sometime I tried playing with the 230 BD and got nowhere. I tried all the loads in my Son's 45 Blackhawk. It was shootin very well with 230 silvertips, but wouldn't shoot the 230 BDs. We were lucky to even get half of them on paper.
This year, I was trying the new GB 45 255 SWK and still had light after trying everything, so I tried some of the leftover BD's from last year and they shot great. In my gun? Measured the throats and the Son's is .450" and mine is .454". Stupid me I should have checked that first.
Anyway, it was 8gns RedDot at about 1000 fps and sitting down doin the Keith I was able to break clay pidgeons on the 100 yd berm fairly well. It was a very pleasant light recoiling load. With the Big flat point on the 230 BD I would imagine it would do well on Deer.

What's the BD? I have a pair of 45BHawks (convertibles). Always intrested in another load. Mick.

It was ran a few years ago. Maybe we weren't on this site yet? I think it was after shooters went down...

anyway, it is 230gns and has a very wide meplat about the most that will function in a 45 acp. If you load it out to long then the radius of the nose might trip the slide latch. I'll see if I can round up some pics of it.

I belive that the mold was made to drop at .454" so it could be used in 45 revolvers also. I've had a bad time trying to shoot it in my 45 autos becuase it's too large. I lubed and sized some to .451" and checked to see if they dropped in my Longslide barrel. They did. Then it was about 2 weeks or something before I had a chance to shoot them and at the range, none would chamber all the way. The bullets had sprung back out or something??? Or maybe I ???? ???

Anyway, I'll see if I can find some pics.
I think it was last year sometime, that another 45 acp mold was done, the 45BD CM or something that had a smaller diameter nose section. Maybe there are some pics left from that thread??

Mick, it is a bullet that Bill Dellam (sp) designed, a member of this board. Shoots good in some autos, apparently no so good in others. For me, it is the most accurate bullet in my .45 ACP Colts

Sundog posted the BD45 over at Castpics:

It is a very good design.

The BDacp is a bullet I designed for killings things with a .45acp. To work well in a 1911 the pistol needs to have at least some throat and the slide stop "button" inside the frame needs to be checked for machining protrusions and possibly slicked up a bit. In a 1911 set up to shoot it, it will just engage the throat on chambering and can be very accurate. I have heard that it can also be very accuate in a revolver with throats a little larger than the bore. I have had very good luck with it dispatching various small annoying critters. As I'm currently living in the south where they have a lot of deer and pigs in pretty heavy cover I'm hoping to get a chance to try it out this season.

Been playing with this bullet in a 45 Colt Uberti.
18.5 gr of the new 2400 powder sized to .452.
Been working very well so far. Brass will drop out
of the cly. . It has had the forceing cone recut to
smooth it out at 11 deg. and the barrel hand lapped
to rid it of a choke at the frame. Have not clocked the
speed of the bullet yet. Sweet shooter NOW.

I bought the BDCM group buy. It didn't shoot for beans in my 45 acps unless I loaded it to max. I gave up on it. Never tried it in the 45 Colt though. Good idear.

The 45BD, original recipie, shoots great in my '17 Smiff, 45 BH Convert and '27 Colt/Agrie contract 1911. Great boolit! That 6 banger Lee (I bought 2, smart!) piles them up quick and easy.
