I always thought it would be the perfect powder in the .45 Colt but I've never owned a .45 to try it in. I can assure you that a case full of it in a .44 Magnum with 270gr bullets works fine. Pressure appears to be well under maximum and the velocity is acceptable, just under the velocity I'd get with a max load of H110. If I remember correctly, I'd get about 25, 26 grains in the case with room to seat the bullet. I think I'd start atg 25 grains in the .45 and work up. This like the other slow powders (WW296, H110, etc) works good only in near-max loads; if you try to use it for a light load, you will get inconsistent ignition and sporadic accuracy.

Art,

If you still have that stuff just send it to me and I'll test it in the 45 Colt for you. :Fire::drinks:

28 grains with a 300+ grain boolit is plenty of punch, and appears to be equivalent to the same volume of RL7, which is 25 grains. In other words, fill to bottom of boolit. ... felix

I use a caseful under the Lee 310 grainer in the .44 mag. Shoots just fine but it does leave a lot of unburned granules on the snow. I'd think you'd have pretty similer results in a .45LC with heavy bullets.

I used 31 gr in a 45 Colt with a 250 Gr RNFP in my lever action Marlin and it realy was potent as a deer load. Only problem I had was the lever loop hit my middle finger a wack every shot and hurt my hand until I kept my little finger out of the loop to leave more room for recoil. I killed a blacktail deer with it last year at 40 yards and it worked like a charm.

Are you guys talking the commercial WW680, or a surplus powder, or either/both.

It APPEARS that all of the 680 versions are of military intention, or once was. ASSUME lot variations only, not different powders. Notice the CAPS. On purpose. ... felix

25 grains of WC680 and 312-180GC boolet is a tack driving load for my .30-06s

25 grains of WC680 and 432-280LFNGC boolet is best performing load in my .44RemMag HandiRifle

I have used AA1680 as a starting point for working up loads using the surplus WC680. There is usually a larger lot-to-lot difference with this than canister grade powders so with each batch I start over and work up. It is currently my favorite in the .500 S&W Encore barrel. 40.0 grains and 440 grain WFN cast @ 1650 from the 20" barrel.
