About a yr. or so ago, I located an NEI , double cav., mold that was about 25 or so yrs. old, made by Walt.

It is a 338 cal., g/c design , ( cast about .3412 " ) and the bullet weighs 262 grs. cast from my alloy.

I'm now shooting a new Ruger Hawkeye , 338 Federal. The bullet is shooting great out of my new rifle. As all of you are aware, Walt really knew how to make a mold.

This one is a joy to cast with...it has a near zero reject rate and the bullets jump out of the mold when it is opened .

I think of Walt whenever I pick up this mold ! Even when someone passes, their work continues to speak volumes about who they were.

Here the bullet is seated to the proper depth in my 338 Fed cases. Notice the bullet lightly engraving when the bolt is closed :

Dang nice looking boolit out of very nice mould. Too bad that the current owners of NEI don't want to produce that nice of a product. Walt was a good one and is missed by many....Wes

Yes, I continue to hear horror stories about the current products coming out of NEI. I'm glad I was able to get my hands on one of Walt's old molds. This is one fine mold !

i have an original walt mold and a leftover transitional mold.
they just drop boolits when opened might have to shake them once in a while but ones a loverign with a ton of angles.
and the other just drops them upon opening.
probably my two most favorite aluminum molds.
the new night owl i have will probably be just as good with a couple of more heat cycles through it.
iv'e used it twice for about 200 boolits now and can see a big dfference in the second time around.
no smoking,nothing.

Yup, O' Walt was a darn fine machinist. I'm told he wasn't much a of shooter or caster, but rather was into making the moulds. I don't know, but he sure left a fine legacy of excellent moulds.

Many of us will have to hope that when we pass that people will say the same things of us..............

The " old guys " really took pride in their workmanship. It is obvious that many of the " Big Companies " who sell molds in today's cast bullet mold market don't necessarily see it that way.

I was just admiring my .366 304gc by Walt. I sure wish I had ordered a few others that I wish I had now.
