I have a pistol that has started backing out the cyl pin from recoil. If I pull on it it seems to be holding but has some play in it. Looking at the pin appears to have a worn spot in it. Is this something that is caused by another problem or just wear and tear. The loads are not maxed loads 13 grains of unique under 240gr boolit. Any fix I can do or a trip back to Ruger in order?

You can order a new Ruger pin from Midway or buy a belt mountain pin with the set screw.

Actually, for most, replacing the spring on the cross bolt for the cylinder pin seems to solve this problem.

One thing to do is to carefully inspect the pin and see if the cross bolt fully seats. If it does, then replacement of the spring with an extra strength spring often solves this. By the way, this is a owner replaceable spring. You can get them from Brownell's.

Replace the factory pin with a Belt Mountain pin. The BM pin will fit tighter and it will have a set screw like a Freedom Arms.

Also check the latch as well. I have a few that I have had to replace because the edge where it locks the pin was peened.

Ricky, just get the belt Mt pin and never look back. and yes it is something to be expected hence the belt Mt base pin. Dennis

I put belt mountain pins and extra power latch springs in all of my rugers. With the stock pins they will either jump with heavy loads right out of the box or surely will a couple years down the road.

With a new pin put a drop of stp oil treatment on it. I think it helps to eliminate the flat spot wear and I run a light tension on the screw to hold it in.

While waiting on your replacement parts, here's a quick fix to keep it running. Remove, stretch & reinstall the original latch spring. This is is a temporary fix but has kept me going in the past.

You got the right answer here ricky.

I have "belt mountain" pins in several.
