Has anyone found a decent load using the lyman 266469 140gr GC linotype
bullet, utilizing either IMR 4064 or W231?
I use 4064 for my hornandy 140 loads and would like to use the same ( reduced )
powder for my swedes. Also, I have W231 and have read that some have used this as a reduced velocity alternative.
The Hodgdon rep suggested Trail Boss for these bullets, but I am trying to be a bit thrifty ( but safe ).
I appreciate any suggestions.

I have used 30-35 grains of IMR4064 in my 6.5X55 Swede wiht OK results. 4895 was a bit more accurate butI had run out. I got the best accuracy when I elevated the muzzle 90 degrees then carefully lowered it to keep the powder toward the back of the cartridge.

W231 would be so fast you'd pretty much be limited to the 'cat sneeze' loads, meaning in
the 300-500 fps range with just a few grains.

Get some Unique and use about 8-10 gr for a real nice load.

I think the 4064 would work just fine with that boolit if that's what you have, although that is one powder I haven't tried myself in the Swedes. You can cure the problem Curator (no pun intended) mentioned by using a small, fluffed tuft of Dacron to fill the space between the boolit and powder. This will keep the logs against the spark the same way every time.

I've used everything from Unique to 4831 and even H1000 with cast in the Swede, can't say I've found the best one yet. My favorite and most accurate powder with jacketed 139 and 160 grainers both was H414, it works pretty well with cast also, and is fairly close to 4064 in burn rate.

+1 on the trail boss. I have not tried it in the Swede, but everything else it has been really good. It is a real "fluffy" powder so no fillers are required.
