What handgun/bullet/load combination will you be using this deer/bear/whatever else you will be hunting season?

I will be using my 6.5-inch BFR in .500 JRH pushing a 440 grain truncated cone bullet (44man's design) over a healthy charge of 296. I will have an Ultradot 30 perched on top.

Ruger Bisley .45 Colt.
I've been running 454424 over 21grn. 2400, buuuuut, I've got one of MiHec's 270-SAA molds that if I get time to work up a load, that's what I'll tote.
Either 21grn 2400 or (if I can hold onto it) 25grn. 296.
Really hoping to get a deer with it this year. Never got a deer with a pistol and always wanted to. I did get that pistol involved in finishing up an "excited" hog last spring and it performed well enough (hog died).

A plane ticket to Las Vegas for the PBR Finals, since I didn't get drawn for an elk or antelope tag.............

454 casull with either a 310 gr LFN GC style custom bullet design or a 300 LFN PB style bullet. Open sights for 50 and under and then the 454 lever action would come next. Powder usually Herco or 2400, maybe AA#9; if I want to really heat things up then H110/Win296.

I do not plan on using a handgun.

Have not got around to working up a load for a TC Barrel in .357 Herrett yet.

Am kinda excited about that.

Did take out a .44 last year, but the deer did not obligeingly show.....

This will be my first year using a S&W 500 6 1/2. I'll be hunting big bull elk and bear. Boolit choice will be the Miha 390gr using the small HP cavity option and cast with a special alloy. Powder choice is 296/110.

I've had good luck using S&W 41 and 44 mags with these animals in the past . Hope to have a chance to compare results with this revolver...

Good luck to everyone willing to use this more difficult hunting technique.. You'll have earned your success!:drinks:

Freedom Arms 1997 in .45 colt. 280g WFN (Veral Smith Mold) over 23.3g of 296 and WLP. Alloy is 50/50 pure/ww quenched. irons. But that is from Oct 16th forward...already shot a small pig with the bow and still trying for a buck.

Ruger Bisley Hunter .44 with 24 grains of 296 and the Mihec Cramer hollow point. On those days I dont want to mess with a red dot sight I'll use my .475 BFR with a 400 grain WFN from Veral, over 15 grains of HS-6. Either will work fine in the creek bottoms and draws for whitetail.

It would be a real travesty if I used anything other than my user id. 10 inch barrel of course. 440 grain over 38 grains h110. It is Incredible how much accuracy that this load has.

Well I was going to use a 44mag 300 gr cast over some 296 till I found out they dont kill well enough, and I have heard that some deer just laugh at the 44mag .So maybe 45 time?:)

R Redhawk 7.5" barrel 44Mag. I guess I'm a wimp I'm using 503Hp. 18gr/2400
Either that or my 60 year old 30/30. Bought new by my grandfather. With NOEs 311- 165gr bullet pushed by Unique.

For deer firearms season I plan to use a scoped Ruger SRH 7 1/2" with Lee 429-310 over an undetermined amount of 2400. Conveniently carried in a cross draw holster.

Already got my buck... .33 caliber round ball...

Was out grouse hunting after cutting some wood a couple of weeks ago, and saw something brown jump through the brush. As I snuck around a big fir tree with my old Winchester '97, I slipped a couple buckshot loads into the magazine, and shucked one in. And there he was, 20 yards away, standing still, looking right at me. So I put that gold bead right on his nose...

I'd never dropped one with buckshot before. Seems to work as good as anything, though. Dropped that 3x3 right where he stood. Never took a step.

OK, so it wasn't a handgun. But if I'd been out for deer instead of grouse, I'd've had the .445 SuperMag Blackhawk Conversion loaded with 300 grain Mihec Hollow points. Oh well, maybe next year. :D

For deer I'm using a Barnett Jackal 150# crossbow or my TC .54 front stuffer, depending on where I'm hunting. I have to get the .54 firing more reliably, there's some sort of flash hole issue preventing me from getting good ignition. I also may try another powder, as the Pyrodex I have seems to be fouling the flash hole more than it should.

For hogs my 30-30 (still need to buy a mold, I want to try something besides silvertips in a 50/50 WW Pb blend) and my Ruger Blackhawk in .41mag. If I get the BT Sniper swage kit in time I'll try some flat nosed 9mm case-based home brewed jacketed.
Hogs depends on if they show up on the propoerty in Culpepper I'm going to hunt with a guy from work. The word is they've gone nocturnal from a combination of hunting pressure and instinct, so we may not get as much chance to hammer them.

What load/bullet will you be using, Hickory?

I'll just send my son Tom out and he'll bring one back.

He's the only one that I know of who has run a deer down and cut it's throat.
But in all fairness, the deer had a broken leg and he got it up against a fence, BUT STILL!

The load is what I used last year the Lyman 44 Devestator on top of some H 110

Same thing I've used the past two years: S&W Model 625 .45 ACP Mountain Gun (no lock) 4" with Mount Baldy's 255 Keith SWC over 6.5 grains of Unique in Starline brass. Shoots great and knocks the snot out of Texas white tails.

choices man I just can't make up my mind
either a 44 mag loaded with a checked 310 gr rcbs over a healthy dose of h110 or
my 45 colt with a 330 gr boolit over the same powder
probably the 45 colt

I will be using the .444 Lone Eagle or BFR with the 300 gr. Mihec hollow point over H322. I bought that mold for those 2 guns. I really don't see that bullet cast soft enough for expansion feeding in a levergun without messing the nose up, but I haven't tried it.

Had a nice spot to hunt thanks to the girlfriends family, but due to RAIN! 400+ acres are under water. No realy, I had to rescue my trail cam by boat.

So besides using a snorkle and water-wings, my S&W 586 "the noisy bow" and some new hornady leverlutions ( I didn't get my hands on the 358429 soon enough to feel up a load :( )

I'll be hunting with all 5 of these at different times:
.475 BFR with Bisley grip RCBS 400 'LilGun powder Fed150 Weaver 4x scope
.454 Ruger SRH Bushnell 2x Lee30045RF gas check 'LilGun Fed205
.454 BFR 6" irons 300pb mountain mold 23 grains 2400 Fed205
.45 Colt Bisley Vaquero stainless 5.5" 270SAA RCBS 10 grains Unique Fed150
and for the first time a .357
GP100 blue 6" 15 grains 'LilGun RP 5.5 mountain mould 180 grain gas check.
All sighted in, ready to roll, depends on mood.
The 11-87 cantilever rifled barrel with Brenneke KO's (yes I know, not for rifled barrels, but they shoot 3" groups at 100 yards in this gun) with Leupold 2-7 VX1 shotgun scope, too big for a holster though.

5.5 inch ruger blackhwak in 45LC loaded with 250 grain 454424 SWCHP's cast from 10 BHN alloy and loaded over 18.5 grains of 2400.
Got 2 antelope tags and a deer tag yet to fill. Might go try out my CVA hawken for one of them. Just using PRB and Pyrodex P in it.

I'll be toting my 7 1/2" Super Redneck in 480. I'm throwing the Lee 400 grainer on top of 17.5gr of 2400. I'm hunting whitetail, the only big game one can "reliably" see in the woods around here. Black bear are around, but most all of them are taken while deer hunting.

I have two handgun/handcannon's I'll be toting this year.

T/C 7-30 Waters with 150gr NOE 7mm Hunter with 30gr of IMR4895

or

Ruger Super Redhawk 7.5" with NOE 311 gr GC HP with 17gr of 2400

I just have to try some of my new boolits! :)
