i just picked up a win 94 in .30wcf.

im looking at mainly looking at using it as a truck gun, and will probably tacticool it out with a reddot, and synthetic stock.

im thinking it will be mainly a close up <100yd varmint(2 legged and 4), so perhaps a lighter boolit?

Get the Lyman 311041 and never look back.

I use the Lee 160 gr boolit for exactly the same purpose and load it in front of a charge of 5744 for an MV of 1500. Fun to shoot as well. It shoots 2" groups at 100 which is adequate for me

The Lyman #311041 is what I use in my Win 94. It works well as a plinker and a hunter, depending on what powder I use.

Sounds like a good choice, the 311041. If you do choose to load to lower velocity, you may want one without a gas check, we did a GB for one, I think RCBS makes one as a Cowboy Boolit.

NOE is doing a run of this bullet now under group buys and you can get one with both gas check and plane base.

311041 for cast as already recommended.

Sierra 125 HP or Speer 130 FP for jacketed.

And if you do use the one that requires a gas check, talk to Blammer here in CB. You'll save a lot of money, and his Gator checks are as good an any you're going to buy elsewhere.

I really like the 311440 a 147gr with a huge meplat. Hits very hard out to 100+ yardsIt does feed well in my lever too.

I use the LEE 170gr. FP. I don't see any need to spend more on a Lyman.

Did anybody mention the 311041? It is the best-fitting .30-30 boolit in the Universe. RD's version of it is a bit better for the Marlins, but I hear good things about it in a Winny, too. I'd get in on the NOE GB as has been mentioned, no need to go lighter IMO. I will say that the Lyman 312#$$% (can't remember the whole thing) 115 grain .32-20 gc boolit is really good light varmint medicine behind a small pile of 2400 or even Unique. But most of the time there is no advantage to the lighter boolit except for 900 fps meat-bunny hunting loads.

I would look for a bullet with a tapered nose (like the Lyman 311041). I have tried a few molds that cast a "bore rider" type bullet and all of them have dropped boolits with noses too big to fit into the bore without a bit of force on the lever to close the action. My current RCBS 30-150-CM isn't too bad, but I will be looking for a different mold at some point.
