What bullet? What range? Why quiet?
Need way more info here to give an intelligent reply.

and what barrel length? Powder choice and velocity are more than a little dependent on that.

I have used 8 gr of Red Dot or 10 gr of unique with a 173 gr 311041 bullet quite alot and they are accurate out to 200 yards about equally so in both my 94winchester and 336 marlin (1950s vintage with regular rifling).

I use 9 gr of Unique behind 150 gr 311466 ACWW in a 336 with 4 groove ballard rifling.

I've been getting good accuracy in my 30-30 with #311410 and enough Trailboss to touch the base of the seated boolit. Not sure of the speed but it'll easily hit clay birds at 200M.

Not quite a 30/30, but I'm using 25.0gr of 2230 which give me around 1900 FPS and pretty good accuracy in my .32 Win Spl using an RCBS 32-170 which weighs in around 180gr using WW & 2% pewter.
This is in a Win '94 (1960 vintage).

With the RCBS 30-150-FN I settled on 11 gr Unique as my "small" game load for my 20" barreled M94. Velocity is 1526 fps. 10 and 10.5 gr were both under 1500 fps and shot well at 100 yards also.

Unique... 9 to 10 grains, cast boolit 150-170 grains.
Will also work fine for deer up close...30 yards.
Head shot or spine shot

I'm with atr, anything over 8.0 gr or so of Unique and gorups begin to open up with 150 grain in my .30-30's. 9.0 grain is real accurate with the Lee 150 grain in .30-30 Ackley 20" bbl. Win, 94. Alot of guys use 10.0 grains but no joy for me over 8.0 gr.

Been using 7 gr of Bullseye under a 170 for many years. Very accurate and very quiet.

i'm using 6gr. of unique with 170gr. lee. it sounds like a 22 short, but far more deadlier. it's accurate too, at 50 yd 3'' groups are normal off hand shootin'. but that's about as far as i'll shoot that load. cause of the rainbow.

30-30 handi ballard rifling 1:12
lee 170 ft pnt
WW ac or 50-50 or 30%lino or range scrap or what ever mystery stuff.
I loose accuracy if its too hard thou.
@4grns bulleye tuff dacron
sized to groove +1thou.
Nose is bore plus a bees dick
Light tumble of lee alox
indexed and seated to lands
Light neck tension
Sometimes I have even be known to clean my shells and anneal the necks even.
@1moa at 100 yrds
around .22lr target velocity

6-8"groups at 300yrds with 72moa hold over sighted in for 50yrds on a good day!!

Works for me.

I had strange ignition when I went below @10 grns unique so I'm not game to try it again.

Note I have had some trouble with above speed of sound stuff cracking though the zone again at over 100yrds or 150 -200
So I stick with subsonic loads for a light giggle load.
Well the drink cans or what ever are just as dead as the others and I think have better accuracy and less wind deflection.
Works for me anyways.
Hope it helps

Barra

Ps the 180 lee rnd nose worked fine for me till I "fixed" it

Single shot thou.

If you are shooting at the metal critters, I would be more concerned about knocking them down with an edge hit than the noise. Bad hits and too light loads will turn a target, but not take it down. No points for that.

I have shot allot of cast bullets at silhouttes and it take a nice bit of thump to take down the 200 yard rams with a marginal hit. You can wish the 50 yard chickens down!

I used a 30-06 and the load was 311467 (170 GC) cast from lintotype and powered by 21/4759. Prolly around 1.8 to 1.9 K fps and took the targets down with authority. There is not much difference the the noise of a 1.5 K fps bullet and a 1.8 K fps, but the impact at the target is much different.

In a 30-30 I would think about the RCBS 180 FNGC and a good dose of 2400. These RCBS bullet cast out closer to 190 grains and that extra weight will help on the targets down trange. Momentum..momentun..momentum. If you have to go slow, go as heavy as you can and the RCBS bullet will still feed through a 30-30 levergun slicker than snot on a glass door knob.

If the match rules give you enought time to single load the round, the RCBS 200 SIL would be a great choice.

I removed the gc step from my Lee 150gr mold with a .311 reamer and I had good luck using 7 grains of Unique. Very quiet and very accurate, I even use it at our local indoor pistol range.

Marlin 336 - Lee C-309-150-F 3 point 5 grains Bullseye, NO filler, about as loud as a .22, but sounds "different". 2 coats JPW, no check. No leading, EXCELLENT accuracy. Did not mess around with Unique, will save it for my 30-06 condom bullets.
