Does anyone know if this will work in a RCBS press. Rock Chucker? Also how do I determine which one I need for a 38spc/357. I have not cast anything so far except round balls. I will probably get a Lee mold but I am not sure which one yet. I need one for cowboy shooting so I will be shooting lead RNFP style bullets.

Thank You,
Mike

Yeah they will fit in all standard presses. What size you need depends on the diameter of your bore. If your mold drops boolits at .358 and that is the size boolits your gun needs, then as long as you can duplicate that casting session (alloy and lead temp), you wont even need the sizer.

Thanks. th only problem is that I have two cowboy guns -- one rifle and one pistol that are .357/38 special and a .38 special snubnose revolver that my wife shoots. I guess that I need to slug the bore(s). Do I need to measure the grooves or lands? Should it be exactly the size of the grooves or something over that size?

Typically .001" to .002" over bore size.

Measure the diameter of "slug", in the majority of barrels, it will be .357", and a .358" to .359" boolit would be required. However, on a revolver you also have to measure the chamber throat diameters. That is the reduced diameter area at the end of the cylinder. If it is .358" to .359" you're in good shape. If it measures smaller than that, there's not much sense in sizing larger.....that reduced diameter throat will size the boolit just like the Lee sizer does.

For your intended purpose, get the .358" setup. I size all my .38 bullets for SASS at .358", and they work in all our revolvers and rifles.

Hope this helps.

Order out the .358 sizer kit. If it turns out, you need a larger sizer the .358 can be opened out two or three thousands very easily. You will probably do real fine with the .358, I size for five pistols and two rifles and they all seem quite happy.

What mold do you use. Is it a RNFP mold?

I use two molds, both made by Magma. For our revolvers, I cast the 105 grain TCFP, and for the rifles, I use the 125 grain RNFP molds. I've got a Magma Master Caster and several Star sizers to make the work faster.

For running through the leveraction rifles, you'll want a TCFP or RNFP bullet, and both will also work well in the revolvers. The same load will also work for both, making it simpler.

Hope this helps.

"Lee LUBE AND SIZING KIT: Does anyone know if this will work in a RCBS press. "

Yes, it will but the press may crumble in humiliation! ;)

Go .358" and all will be well.

I have another question that is associated. That is, I still don't have the die set since before I was loading for .45Colt,44-40,38-40 and 32-20. I did not load .38 because it used to be cheap and my son was shooting the 32-20 and the .38. Does anyone know if it would be better to use the Lee carbide dies to seat the RNFP bullet or where another make would handle this shape better. I have in the past used mostly RCBS and Redding dies.

The Lee dies should work fine. I own a lot of them.

I suggest checking the throats of your .38 revolver cylinder, and size the boolits to be snug in the throats. That is the most important fit with revolvers. If your throats measure .360 (as do my BH throats), then you should size your boolits to be .360 - should be a snug fit, but pushable.

They fit any press with standard 7/8x14 threads. That will be most modern presses.
I opened mine up .001+.

mrappe,

i have 8 different lee bullet sizers in two 4-hole turrets for my lee classic cast turret press.

a .358" set would work for any .38/.357 i've ever run across, but if you're not committed to a mold yet, i'd suggest one of lee's tumble lube designs...no sizing required and friends that use them swear by their accuracy.
