I bought one today....No.4 MK1..It has been sported long ago. Not a whole lot of military dress left over. It is in very good shape though. It has a Bishop stock set on it (professionally done), also has a front sight by Parker Hale England on it. The rear sight is screwed into the barrel right forward of the reciever ring, on the barrel shank. It has has a flippable sight blade and the whole works lays down flat. The bore (2 groove) looked like it had rust and frosting in it, and I voiced my concerns to my pawnbroker. He promptly took the gun downstairs and fired a R-P Core Lokt round into his bullet trap (which shook the floor!!). The bore looked like a mirror when he was done. It also has a nice smooth trigger too. Well I got the rifle, an extra mag (which I found strange), and a bag of R-P Core Lokt ammo plus the spent case from him shooting it downstairs. I got everything for......$100! Did I do good? It is definitely not for the purists, but I like it.

.312 jacketeds will be a touch more accurate than .311.
You will probably cast to .314.
Paper patching will impress you with that rifle.

This is the exact reason I got it! Have been wanting to PP some .308 cast. I'm thinking do some PPing in the Mosin and this gun now.

You are going to want to go with the .303 cast rather than the .308. The nose diameter will make all the difference.
Get the Lee .303/185 mold. I have that one and it works great with paper.

What does the receiver say? The fold down sights on the barrel makes me think of the Parker Hale cat. 1954 ish.

This is definitely an older build. It has a bunch of proofs on it. I will look at it tonight when I get home. The front sight does say "Parker Hale".

Well, since you have that mold,
Cast a bunch up. I save my zinc to blend in with that mold, and size to .308, wrap twice with 'puter paper, or lined notebook paper, and when dry after twisting tails, snip the tail and size to .314.
Minum jacketed loads with 4895.
Do not crimp.
Should be a sweetheart.

There is some stamping under the rear sight on the left side of the rifle. It is stamped-BNP under a crown 303 2-222" then under that it says 18.5 tons per square (has a square symbol). To the right of the barrel shank it has the BNP and crown stamp again. Just forward of the rear sight is a crown stamp and the #7. Further down the reciever by the ejection port it says No4 Mk1. The ring that the buttstock plugs into says "England" and has a date of 1942 under it.

The gun is parkerized but it has patches of black paint on it. Like I said it is wearing a Bishop stock set and it is very well inletted. Real pro job done on this one.

Horrible Deal! You can make a few dollars if you let me buy it from you at $150 ;) You don't want to step into the black hole that is called Enfielditis. Its a horrible disease that only worsens the more you shoot those rifles...

I've got a terminal case of it so I've got nothing to lose and am willing to sacrifice the rest of my remaining health to help you out of that.

Check and C&R Copy coming in mail as soon as you agree to get that rifle out of your gunsafe for the safety of the other rifles...:)

Shot it the other day. Shot ok. I was shooting some R-P RNSP-J bullets. It was banging me around nicely I might add. Can't wait to PP for this ol girl. It cleaned up real well too.

Once you are patching, you will need to bed the barrel.
They run hot, and the barrel acts like spagetti. POA goes out the window.
You will know when you are through with the patches de-leading, etc...
Once bedded down, you will be totally amazed.

Returned from the range with my No4 Mkl, .313 Lee mold bullets, most keyholed at 50yds. Slugged the bore, a 2 groove barrel, came out .318 or .319. Need larger dia. bullets. Was wondering if my 8mm bullets sized down would work? The rifle is a Long Branch made in 1943. It's in nice shape, would like to get it to work.

Size your 8's to .320, should be OK. Powder; try H4350 to start, then work up to faster powders slowly. Use starting J-word load data.
