Pistol scope "set-back"

The gun is a ruger super blackhawk hunter, 7.5".
The scope is a 2X bushnell.
The rings are the ruger factory rings.

Everything was torqued down using a "FAT" wrench, to the recommended values.

How do I keep the scope from moving back in the rings under recoil? The scope was actually dented from it sliding forward into the front sight.

Any suggestions would be great......

maybe if you lap the rings you will get more contact with the scope tube and less movement

Lap the rings, degrease with acetone, add some powder rosin or friction paper and retorque.

Degrease the inside of the rings and put a strip of 2 sided sticky scotch tape inside the rings. The scope won't slide and it is easy to remove if need be.

When i had a scope on my 44Mag I put a little blue locktite in the rings when I installed them, never had a problem and this was when I was stupid enough to use heavier loads than should be used.

I would go with just using the powdered rosin. If the scope is sliding back, someone may have already been a bit too aggressive lapping the rings in the past.

I just mounted a scope that I purchased from a member here on a super 14" t/c .445 supermag , Let it sufice to say that it also wanted to move under ( severe ) recoil . I had the rings as tight as I beleived that they would go , But it still slid with every shot . Being that they are not terribly expensive rings or scope , I used some medium grit sandpaper to take the "slick " surface from the inside of the rings . Applied some blue locktite and voila a rock solid mounted scope , It hasn't moved after nearly 250 rds of full power .445 supermag 330 gr. boolit @ nearly 1600 fps ( ENERGETIC ) YMMV.

A very small dab of RTV Blue (gasket silicone) in the rings before assembly will hold the scope in place.

I'm a big fan of both the two sided tape and Loctite either get the job done and with real heavy loads prefer red or stud and bearing loctite.

Be aware that loctite is pretty much a "permanant" mounting solution!

I've used a thin layer of rubber cement on top and bottom rings, tighten down and let it dry. You can also take the rubber cement out if you ever want to as well just by rubbing it.

2 sided tape is my solution, I put it on the top and bottom of the rings for my RSRH on both front and back, then snug down the rings per directions. No movement.

I like the dab of rubber cement and rtv sealant ideas too. I'll have to remember that.
