RG=the abilityto hollow point a boolit by changing pins.
2-4=the number of cavities the mould has.

Ok thanks.
Does the r and the g actually an abbreviation for something though?

I believe it stand for rube goldberg as the originally idea was a cobbled together thing.
I have a rg4 and it works very well. Takes a different technique to work at it's best but it was not a difficult learning process.

The RG stands for Rube Goldberg. Rube Goldberg was a cartoon strip that featured complicated and funny ways to accomplish simple everyday tasks.

Al showed me a work up of his horribly complicated drawing for multicavity hollow pointing his moulds. The only thing it was missing was the mouse to knock over the wall to set it in motion for completion.

After working through a better solution, (the one that is currently in use) Al named it RG in honor of Rube Goldburg, who was known for solving the simplest of things with the most complicated devices.

and last but not least, a pic of an RG4, notice the interchangable pins to make cavities HP or Flat point.

The RG molds were developed to have the hollow point usability of a Cramer mold in an aluminum block. Aluminum is softer than brass or iron, so needed a different solution. Through the block cramer pins would more quickly cause wear in an aluminum mold block. Attaching the HP pins to an external slide framework was the work around solution.

Here is an exploded view of an RG4

Couldn't be Red green...no duct tape anywhere in sight. LOL
BTW, I've got an old T/C Maxi-Hunter mold that uses about the same kind of pin holder rig. It isn't pretty and it's limited as to what you can do for a pin, but it works.

.............I've seen a TC "Maxi-Ball" mould with that system used. MAde a couple pins for it :-)
