Anyone have any experiance with or first hand knowledge of an all steel 22 cal conversion unit for a 1911 Colt made by Peters Stahl of Germany?
It seems very well made. Value?

They were first sold by Pachmayr. The early ones had problems and were recalled. Look at the area where the disconnector rides. If it has been welded and remachined it has been repaired. After being fixed by the factory they were for the most part excellent. Most were tackdrivers but some seemed to have accuracy problems.
Champions Choice sold/sells a Peter Stahl complete .22. It was high dollar like $2000.00
I bought my conversion unit in about 1982 for $169.00. They demand more than that like $300.00 - $400.00 now.

If you want an all steel 22LR conversion unit that works well then go for the Tactical Solution 2211 unit.

I've been using a 'Ceiner" for a few years. WORKS GREAT. No difference from the day I purchased
it. NO problems at all !!!! Saves .45 ammo.Bigmac

Is that a conversion unit for the 1911 frame or is it a complete gun.
I was not really looking for one I was just trying to learn about the Peater Stahls conversion.

The Peters Stahl conversion was a pricey unit in it's day. I remeber it being sold by Champions Choice or Champions SDhooters Supply. The workmanship was ecelletn but I cannot vouch for their reliability as I have no expereince shooting them.

I got a Day 30-X conversion from Bob Day for $100, including 2 mag adapters. Aluminum with a Douglas barrel. Aluminum slide. Bought it from him in San Antone just before the All-AF Matches, and shot it in a Warm-up @ Ft Sam. Shot a 298 Match course, but the hammer started following the slide down, and had to finish the match with my Smith 41. That night Bob put a Gold-Cup hammer in it, and that cured the following problem.
When I shot it in the All-AF matches I set a new All-AF record that still stands (They quit shooting that particular match, so my record is safe!).
When I was competing, I could fairly well rely on it to provide me with an 880 or thereabouts to get things started right. It will be the last gun I get rid of. I don't know if there were very many made by Bob, but if one could be found, it would be very worth trying out. Simple conversion - slip the .45 slide off, slip the 30-X slide on, use the 30-X slide stop, push the mag adapters into stock mags, and have at it.

Not to hijack the thread, but Kart also made a very nice conversion unit; I can't recall if it's all-steel or not. If you stumble across one that's complete and has extra mags for a decent price, they're definitely worth a look.

Everything I ever heard about the Stahl units was very positive, but their price was out of my reach. The Ciener units are adequate for casual plinking, but nowhere near accurate enough for competition. Plus, customer support is nonexistent from him; that fact is pretty well established.

The Marvel conversion is very highly regarded, and definitely worth a look if one is in the market.

An interesting point I forgot to mention about the Peter Stahls unit I have is that it came with a Colt clip. I assume this clip is from the Colt ace.

Hello Echo
I also have a Day Arms Conversion and really like mine
What fun, I leave it mounted on a good 1911 frame
