What is the process for swaging a FN onto a RN boolit? I'm thinking to change RN to FN for hunting. Any of you guys do this? How? Thanks, 10

10 ga,
It is not swaging but one of the members here modified mold to turn a RN to FN. His modification was similar to a HP modification but with a flat pin instead of a HP pin. And I think he used a small screw to secure it to the mold so he did not have to hassle with the pin falling out as he casted. jmsj

With a Lyman or RCBS sizer, you can sometimes apply enough pressure to the nose with a flat punch, after bottoming out the boolit in the die, to get a decent flat nose. I've done this with Lyman 358430's, it made a nice hammerhead shape.

I have bumped a flat nose on a rn boolit with my Lyman sizer many times and it worked well. I did have problems with certain bore riders in that the nose section was bumped up(expanded) too large to fit in the bore. This can also sometimes be a fix for a loose bore rider.
I have found that cast boolits with round nose driven around 2000+ fps seem to make as large a hole as a flat nosed.

I just file the point off after loading. You only loose a few grains and you can get pretty accurate with a few tries.

mrolliver77, is that on paper or meat? I like my FN boolits on meat as they do a good job of putin it on the table. haven't shot any RN except for .22 rimfire in a long time. even then it was 158s in a .38 spl. 10

It's easy with CH dies. Here are bullets I hollowpointed via CH. The left hand bullet is Lyman's 358477 (150 grains) and the right hand is Lyman's 358495 (140 grains). Both were cast in #2 alloy with 5% tin, not pure lead. Bullets must be lubed before swaging, because any un-filled grooves will be crushed out during swaging. You can order swaging dies at www.ch4d.com.
