One of these babies just showed up at the store. I didn't know Savage made a Mk.2
It is marked with the FTR engraving. It has the typical (non-Savage) bolt release mechanism, which threw me for a loop the first time I saw it, and is marked on the upper left side of the receiver "US Property". The trigger is hinged from the action, and the trigger lever block has been added (brazed) to the action to pivot the trigger on. What do you guys think? I'll try and get some pics on Monday.

So the rifle was an early Savage made No 4 MkI (not the later MkI*)

During FTR it was up graded to a MkII.

ie: Savage made only MkI (1941 and early 1942) and MkI*

What is the serial number?
Does the rifle have an Ispur screw?

Some Savage No4Mk1s and Mk1*s were upgraded to "Mk1/3s" after the war. Trigher blocks were brazed o the back of the action and new fore stock and trigger guards were fitted. Not rare but not common either.
