Out playing hunter/gatherer today. Well, mostly hunter anyway. It’s the opener for the Ft Stewart primitive weapons season. I hadn’t bloodied my Lyman GPR in quite a while, so I dusted it off and hit the woods. Had a doe come by this morning at 0820 about 20 yards out. Took her behind the left shoulder with a .490 RB (90 gns 777) which dropped the deer like a stone. Oddly no exit wound and during the gutting/skinning/butchering process, I never did come across the RB. Good to get the freezer replenished.

Got a fat doe on TH night myself.

Of course, the large buck I was waiting for failed to show....

Congratulations on your deer. It should be mighty fine eating.
I use round ball only for deer and saboted slugs for elk. Roundball just seems to work better for deer. My little old T/C Seneca 45 got a spike buck for my wife on Monday and a 170# live weight doe for me yesterday. I do love hunting with patched round ball.
Warm barrels and full freezers to all!!

Is your accuracy good with the load your shooting? I've been shooting 80 gr. Triple 7 with a roundball and its shooting pretty good.

Yes, I get great accuracy with fresh 777. The problem I've experienced is after a year or so, 777 seems to degrade (clumping sometimes) and accuracy degrades somewhat. I'll probably move on to something else after this year.

I use FF Black Powder.

I should too. When I first got into muzzle loading years ago, I couldn't find it locally. Now living in GA it's available, so I'll have to make the switch.

I used to use Goex ffg, but it got a little hard to get here. Your right about the Triple 7 clumping up after a while. Pyrodex does that too. I'll probably go back to Goex sometime, because I've got about 3 pounds of it right now.

Nice deer. I would rather have a doe for the freezer than a stinky ole buck.
I have to wait 'til 10/30 to take my .54 GPR for a stroll.

I think a GPR .54 cal flint kit may be in my furture.

Congratulations, you really presented the kind of picture that all hunters should! Very nice looking doe, that will make some AWESOME fried deer chops and gravy!

I passed on a doe this morning and two does and a forkhorn buck this evening. Hoping for Mr. Big, but we'll see how long my self control holds out.

I let a four point walk a few minutes after taking the doe shot.

My cell phone camera doesn't a very good job, but here is the forky I let walk. Could have shot it with a bow.

RugerFan, usually if I want a deer to eat I get a doe. I let the young bucks walk. They won't get older and hopefully bigger unless I do. I try not to shoot a buck unless he's 4 years old. Glad you let the little guy walk.
