5010 or wc860 in .300 RUM ???

I plan on making a powder order to Widener's. Besides ordering some surplus 4895, I plan on getting some powder to burn through my .300 RUM. I "rescued" this gun with the express plan of using 180gr Remington Cor-Lokts and some surplus powder to lower cost to that of loading/shooting .30wcf to .30/06 with "usual" powders.

Which powder would likely give best results?

I've gotten good results with RL-25 and Retumbo.
Fair results with H50BMG.

What are your recommendations?
(Please; only those who have used both or either powders in a MAGNUM case)

872 ain't too bad a choice either, 190 gr Horn at 300 yard gong, close enough for elk, that's approx 2Wx2.5H, and recoil is quite managable, my 5-3, 105 pound wife will shoot groups with it, but not too many.

They Ain't Got No wc872 !!!!

Question was 5010 or wc860.

But thanks for the reply anyhow!
Seems wc872 is closer to 860 than 5010.

Anyone know specific burn rate for either ???

Use the WC 872 same as WC 860. Pretty much interchangable.

GooseGestapo--WC 860 works very well in my son's Rem 700 .300Rum. We use a 180 Sierra FB and worked up to 101g. Velocity from his 26" bbl is 3162 fps and accuracy was 3 shots in less than 1 inch. (shooter's shoulder gave out then). Hope this helps.--Shuz

You're welcome! I don't know who THEY are, but Bartlett, hitech and Pat McDonald all show it available today.

"Remington .300RUM--26 BBL

CCI 250 mag
101g WC860(lot lc84k680l030)
Sierra 180spfb
OAL 3.865
Chrono'd 3166fps SD25
MOA group

Worked up to this load and past it and came back due to accuracy and the miniscule increase in velocity that another grain made."

Shuz you're loosing velocity there pard, 4 fps this post, 3.865"OAL??? the mag box on that Remington is only 3.7" long+/- a few thou, single shot?

Like I wrote, getting it from "WIDENERS".

Need to get you some new reading glasses there SWheeler !!!
I did, they really help with the small print.
your'e welcome !!!

Thanks Shuz!
That's what I was looking for. Seems that your charge weights are somewhat lighter than the AA8700 "data" equivalent that Bartlet suggests. Max for AA8700 is 118.0gr.

That velocity level is about what I was looking for too. Duplicates the .300 Weatherby factory loads. The Retumbo load of 100.0gr from my gun gets over 3,400fps. (26"bbl Savage- has longer throat than the REMMY's)
Recoil to match too!
Accuracy at this level is amazing, if you can squeeze the shot off without "wincing" at the expectation!
Amazing that the pressure levels are as "modest" as they are too.
Remington really did their "homework" on this cartridge. Kinda like the .204Ruger scaled up to 30-caliber.

Glad you got some glasses! You're TOO recoil sensitive(maybe your estrogen levels are low), you'll never be able to hit anything with it anyway, so why bother reloading for it! I guess you will be able to "brag" to your "girlly" friends about how powerful it is!!! wa-wa-wa

swheeler--I made a transposition error on the OAL. It should have read 3.685. They do work in the magazine, too. Thanks for pointing out the discrepancy. As far as the velocity goes, 25 SD is good enuf for me,and that accounts for that discrepancy!

Shuz; I figured that, just looked a little long for the mag, plus I had to show I could read the fine print.
