I bought a mold from BRP and the mold cast great(452-300 3 cavity mold with one hollow point.). I have a question on my alloy. The boolits should drop at .452 and at 300 grains. My boolits are dropping at 454 and 306 grains in the solid points and the same diameter for the hollow points. My mix I am using is 50/50 WW Pb. Do I need to add more pure lead to get them to drop at . 452? or do I need to add more WW to my mix? I have only kept 12 boolits.

Most of us hope to get a mold that casts a little over size so we can size it to what we want. They are easy to size down. Bumping up is another thing entirely.
Even pure lead will not cast much smaller if at all. It takes 5 to 6 percent antimony to gain even 1/1000 of cast size.
As for he weight , your mold is probably calculated for #2
Your 50/50 WW/Lead is heavier than #2 alloy.

That's why they make boolit sizers!

Yep! Bigger is better. Don't get fiaxted on 1/1000 of an inch. Or so I told my ex.

Good morning
I would recommend you shoot that diameter as they are dropping from the mold...
You did not list what firearm they areintended for but unless your firearmīs throat diameter in about .450-.451 you want an oversized boolit to fit tight and give a good seal.
I would be very happpy with a .002 oversized boolit in most any firearm of .410 and larger.

Sorry was late when I posted. The firearm is an omeag X7 50 cal muzzle loader. My black mmp sabots are for 451-452 diameter bullets. I may try them as they are and see how they load and shoot. The main thing I am trying to figure out is how the lead to other metal effects the boolit diameter.

garbear, The alloy mix only affects cast size minimally unless you use a lot of antimony then you can get another 1 or 2 1/1000 drop size.
I think you need a cheap Lee push-thru sizer.

get them to drop to size is not what you want although nice
boolits as cast maybe a wee bit out of round so sizing brings em back
Lee push thru sizers are inexpensive and they do a good job
good shootin

If using them with sabots then it is easy to find a sabot to fit. Go on the MMP and/or Harvester websites and they have a good selection of sabots. I use the red crush rib or the short black sabot for my BMP 300s in my Savage MLII. Your bore could be different. Try with the sabots you have and adjust accordingly. With the right sabot sizing will probably not be necessary. Too tight a fit and you could stretch the sabot when loading if they arn't the tough ones for smokeless. My 300 BMP s shoot good. I cast of softer 65/35 lead/ww mix and get good terminal performance. Huntin season is getin close, good luck! 10
