I finally got around to checking and noticed that Lee makes a Factory Crimp Die in .45-70. I swear by using a factory crimp die in .45 Colt and wonder if the .45-70 version works as good as the .45 Colt does.

I currently use RCBS Cowboy dies when loading for my Marlin 1895 CB and so far have not had any problems. Would the Factory Crimp Die be a good investment? I would be loading the Lyman 405 grn LFP sized .459 in WW cases using 5744 powder.

What are other folks experience with the Factory Crimp Die in .45-70?

Thank you.

I am using the Lee crimp die for my 45/70 and they seem to do the trick. I just starting using one due to the fact I want to make sure every piece of brass is uniform. I only put a slight crimp in the brass. I am using the Lyman 457193 and they go down range great with my 1895 SS.

Good morning
Yep.. I have had good sucess using one in my narrow throated 45īs. But the Lee does not like FAT boolits. Slight modifications have to be made so FAT boolits will pass through the inner opening.

They work fine. I like mine for 45-70 because I prefer to seat and crimp as separate operations.
Ease of adjustment is another plus.

Ditto on the comments. Excellent investment. Can control lentgh, depth of crimp and even crimp bullets without cannelures.

I use one as well for my 45-70 reloading. I would not want to be without it. In fact, I want a LFCD for every one of my calibers.
