The 8mm and H4831

I know that its really to slow for the 8x57, but I have lots of H4831 and use it in the 25-06 and 270. I would like to use it in the 8x57 with a 180-220 grn jacket bullet. The Lee second edtion shows a start of 53 grns for all weights, That dont seem right too me. In the cases that i have with a 170 gn bullet it just touches the base of the bullet with 52 grns, so 53 would be compressed? aboout what would the pressure be ? Safe for a small ring action?
I have had good results with 4831 in every thing else i have tried it in so I feel 8x57 will be no diffrent.

I've tested 49 gr (slightly compressed) of old 4831 under the Hornady 220 gr SP in the 8x57. Psi(M43) was in the 38,000 range. Whether or not that is safe in your SR is your decision.

Does anyone have a chart that shows the pressure limits of the various milsurp actions/cartridges? That would make a great sticky.

The load I grew up with in 8x57 is to fill the case up to the bottom of the neck, and use with any 150-180 gr. bullet.

Er, with 4831 of course. H4831 may be different than the old stuff tho.
