I want to get a shorter front sight for my RIA 1911 a1 . It is dovetailed. I see on Midway, they have replacement blades, but they say Novak, heinie, Egw, cut???. What are the dimensions for the different style of cuts? Anyone know? Thanks. It shoots low @ 15 yrds. Real low @ 50.

Sence it shoots low, file a little off the top of the sight,no need to replace it.

The standard for dovetail cuts is 3/8" but that does not mean yours is.

Brownells has the dovetail specs listed for most of the sights that they carry.

The spec usually asks if you slot is 60 or 65 degrees. Brownells has most of the angles for the dove tials listed in the discription.

The trick is to figure out what RIA used.

Now having said all that I think Calamity Jake has suggested exactly what I'd do if this was my 45: file and shoot!

Unless your looking to do some wierd color or post site I'd file it!

RIA uses 65degree dovetail for their front sight. if you're interested in fiber optic sights Dawson Precision is making one to fit. I don't know what height they are making them. Give them a call .
