I've got some of each of the above and would like to use either with jacketed in my 250 Savage Ruger M77 . Anyone here tried either or both with the 250 or something comparable?

36 grains of 846 out to get you about 2800 with a 100. Id start at 35 though as lots can very in speed quite a bit and if your usting the tracer version id start at 34.

Thanks Lloyd. I only have the 100 gr jacketed now but intend to get some lighter bullets for it for coyote medicine. It's an older rifle and likely has a 14 inch twist barrel, so it should shoot the 75 and 87 grainers OK.

Denver,

I am working up loads for my Savage 99 .250 with 1-14 in twist. What I have done so far is with WC 846 LOT SA LC 20521-109.

35.0 gr with a speer 87 gr bullet and Rem primer got average Vel 3038 fps. Seemed a little hot for my liking but shot good.

31.5 gr with a 100gr BT bullet Rem primer Vel 2767 shot a 3/4 in group at 50 yds. This is way below this rifles capability but pressure was normal.

Favorite load is 100 gr Sierra with IMR 4064 34.0 gr and Rem Primer Vel just above 2800 FPS and groups are covered by a dime at 100 yds. This rifle should not shoot this good but I will not argue with success. Loading with the WC 846 just to get rid of it. If I ever get that kind of accuracy with the WC 846, I let you know.

JD,

Thanks for the info. I loaded and shot a few today. Start load was CCI LR primer, 34grs WC846, and Sierra 100 grain bullet. Average velocity was 2864fps. Group was approx 1"wide x 1 5/8 high at 100 yds. Maybe a half grain or so more will round out the group. I have some 75 and 87 grain bullets on order and want to see what they'll do with this powder.
