After casting for a .223 I realize casting for a .17 would be darn tuff. BUT, I think you could use large LR primers for gas checks, no?

I would think they would be too thick, mabey if they were annealed they would work. do they make molds for .17 ? what is the sized size of a .17 ? I could try to make check maker for it. I am sure it would have to be a check for a PB boolit. if you want to give it a go, and I can make one for the .17 you can have it, no charge. ed

Oh I dont think they have a 17 mould, and I dont even have a .17! I was just thinking of something to do with the huge pile of used primers on my floor. It would tickle me pink if they would make GC,s. But what would you charge to make a check maker for a .50?

By the way Ed, that was a very generous offer, that I appreciate greatly. Thankyou.

First off a .17 cal is .172. Large rife and pistol pirmers are .210 dia. Small pistol and rifle primers are .175.

I wonder if LR or LP primer cups could be swaged out to .224 for GC on .22 centerfires ,

I have a book showing the making of "reloaded" primers, using crushed "Strike Anywhere" Match heads...
Talking with an old guy many years ago, he said he had made some just see if it could be done and they worked !
Now I guess the make up of the newer match heads has changed and they don't work as well.
Seems like a lot of work, but hey, what else do ya have to do ? .... "PJ"

Not sure about that--worth a shot to try. What I have in mind is once I finish my swaging dies for .223 I wanna try pressing them with a split core and bonding them--in a sense, swaging a partition bullet using a bonded primer cup for the barrier between core and point lead.
